September 2008

"Logan!" Rory ran into the house after work one evening "you're never gonna believe it!"

"What happened?" Logan walked out of the office

"I'm gonna get to interview Barack Obama!"

"What?!"

"He agreed to sit down for an interview for the paper but he wanted me to do it"

"He asked for you by name?"

"Yeah. My editor, John called me into his office this morning and I walked in there and Barack Obama was just sitting there. And John asked me to sit down. So I sat down, next to Barack Obama, and they told me that they wanted me to interview him and his wife. So we set up a lunch for tomorrow and Barack noticed my ring and asked how long I've been married and I told him I wasn't married yet but that I'm engaged and he said that you should come to lunch with us. Can you come to lunch?"

"Ace, that's amazing!" Logan hugged her "of course I'll come"

"Ok, great. I have to go prepare. There's so much I wanna ask them" Rory ran into the office and then ran back out with her laptop and sat down at the kitchen table

"Why don't you do that in the office?"

"I don't know"

"Oh, my god. I'm so nervous" Rory said walking out of the bathroom the next morning

"Don't be" Logan said from his position, sitting on the bed "he requested you by name. That means you're doing something right"

"But what if the article turns out terrible? What if it stinks?"

Logan pulled Rory down onto the bed next to him

"Listen. For you to write something that stinks you'd have to be writing about a garbage can"

"You're sweet"

"And you're amazing" he kissed her, softly "but if you don't get dressed soon we're gonna be late"

"I'm going"

—————————————————————————

"Good afternoon. Do you have a reservation?" The hostess asked when Rory and Logan walked into the restaurant

"We're actually meeting someone" Rory told her "the reservation should be for the San Francisco chronicle"

"Yes, I see. They're already at the table, I'll take you to them"

"Oh, my god" Rory whispered

"Ace, you ok?"

"How did this happen?"

"What?"

"We're about to have lunch with Barack and Michelle Obama. How the hell did that happen?"

"You're an amazing writer. That's how it happened"

The hostess showed Rory and Logan to the table

"Hi Rory, nice to see you again" Barack stood up and shook Rory's hand

"You too Mr Obama" Rory said, nervously

"Please, it's Barack. This is my wife, Michelle"

"Nice to meet you" Rory shook her hand "this is Logan, my fiancé"

"Nice to meet you" Logan said and shook both Barack and Michelle's hands

They sat down and ordered lunch

"So how are you feeling as we get closer to the election?" Rory asked

"I'm feeling good. To be honest I'm a little nervous but I've done all I can do and now it's up to the people" Barack said

"Well, according to the polls it's looking very good for you" Rory said

"That's true, but you and I both know how quickly that can change" Barack said

"Very true"

They talked about the election until their food came

"Ok, enough about the election" Michelle said "tell us about you. I heard you guys are getting married"

"We are" Logan smiled

"When?"

"Just over a month" Rory said

"That's soon."

"Yeah" Rory swept a hair behind her ear

"Is all the planning done?"

"Yeah. I grew up in this really small town called Stars Hollow, in Connecticut and were getting married there. Almost everything is being taken care of there. Cake, food, decorations, pictures..."

"It must've been so nice to grow up in a small town" Barack said

"It was. The people there are pretty...eccentric" Rory chuckled "but everyone's so nice. They would lose their minds if they knew that I had lunch with you guys"

"We might just have to visit there, sometime" Michelle said

After lunch Rory and Logan were in the car driving home

"I cannot believe we just had lunch with Barack and Michelle Obama" Rory said

"I know. They were a lot nicer than I thought they would be"

"Thank you for coming with me"

"Of course! Anything for you, Ace"

Rory's phone rang

"Hello?" Rory put the phone to her ear

"Loin fruit!"

"Mom, I told you not to call me that, it's gross"

"Are you driving? It's sounds like you're driving"

"Logan's driving"

"You guys both have work. Where are you going at 2:30 on a random Wednesday afternoon?"

"Home"

"From?"

"Oh, nothing big" Rory giggled "just lunch with Barack Obama and his wife"

"Oh, my god!" Lorelai squealed

"Ow" Rory took the phone away from her ear and then put it back "that was loud"

"You had lunch with Obama?!"

"I did"

"How the hell did that happen?"

"Well, He agreed to sit for an interview for the chronicle and apparently he had read a few articles that I wrote and he asked that I be the one to do it. And we made plans to sit down and have lunch and he said he was gonna bring his wife and that I should bring Logan"

"When did this happen?"

"Yesterday. My editor called me into his office and Barack was just sitting there"

"Wow. That's great, hon"

"I know. We'll have sit down a few more times before the article is finished but I'm really excited"

"I'm happy for you, kid"

"I'm happy for you too!" Luke called out

"Thanks"

"Ok, I gotta go but congratulations"

"Bye mom"
