The medical station was quiet all day.
A cold also spread throughout the facility and the usual patients complained of headaches and coughs.
But towards evening we had a medical emergency.
Someone where you badly injured on a mission.
I didn't know this man, he must have belonged to another unit now.
He had a gunshot wound in his leg and stab wounds in his torso.
We were able to treat the external injuries, but he had internal bleeding that we couldn't take care of in time.
He died after 1 hour on the table.

That was the first person to die while I was trying to save him.
I was always afraid of this moment and tried to prepare for it. However, it was even worse than I thought.

When work was over, I went up to my room without a word and ran to the bathroom.
I turned on the shower and let the water get hot. I sat down with my clothes on and started to cry.
I didn't know how long I sat there, but it must have been at least half an hour.

There was a loud knock on the door, but I couldn't answer, I was paralyzed.
It knocked again but I didn't answer.
Finally the door opened. Apparently I didn't lock it. The bathroom door was open.
Whoever was in my room knew I was in the bathroom.
"Y/n?" I heard a voice. I couldn't identify the person as the water was too loud to hear the voice.
I got a quiet "yes?" out of me.
I saw through my tears that someone was coming in. I looked up and saw the man in the mask.
"What are you doing here?" he asked me.
"Having a shower"
"With your clothes on?"
"Yes."
"I heard what happened at the medical station today. He was a friend of mine."
"I'm sorry." I reply and started crying again.
"Everyone is waiting for you in Price's office. Stand up."
I shook my head.
"All right," he said.

He came towards me and I was afraid that he would pull me up and force me to come with him.
But instead he sat down next to me.
"You're getting wet" I said.
"It's going to dry."
He leaned his head against the wall behind him, closed his eyes and let the water run over his head.
His arms rested on his knees and his right arm touched my shoulder.
Since I had been sitting under the water for a long time, I gradually got hold of it and felt its warmth on my shoulder.
I would have loved to snuggle up to him.
Not just to feel his warmth, but to feel him.
We sat there together in our clothes in the shower and didn't speak to each other.
But his presence alone was a comfort to me.
