Silence...that was all she needed. Just a little bit of peace. A moment to herself. A minute to let her guard down.

She sat on the building edge again, her legs dangling off and her hair moving in swift waves. Her eyes - blue like the ocean, dark like the night sky - were looking straight forwards at the horizon, which was slowly swallowing the sun down. As it did so, the entire sky was painted apricot and amber, the clouds fluffy and pink. The air was fresh and clean, with soft puffs of wind and a cool, chilly atmosphere.

Despite the cold, she was still only wearing a short sleeved top with leggings, her jacket abandoned on the ground behind her. Her hands where slowly rubbing against her arm, her body cold and slightly shivering. But she fought it. She could survive so much, a little cold won't hurt her. Either way, it wasn't cold enough to do severe harm to her anyways, so she just sat, staring, unmoving, at the setting sun, not letting the cold get to her and getting lost in her own world, her own thoughts. Her eyes flickered shut, making her rely on her other senses to distinguish the place around her.

She could hear the muddled blur of words and chatter, the sound of cars and busses driving on the street. The smell of food from restaurants downstairs wafting in the atmosphere and the tang of the crisp, clean air. She could feel the breeze on her face, cool and refreshing, and the way her skin prickled and her arms spotted in goosebumps from the cold.

When Vania opened her eyes again, the sun was almost completely set. The orange and amber was slowly being replaced with indigos and blues, and the first couple of very very faint stars could be seen. The roads were starting to become less and less crowded as the people of Ninjago city slowly started retreating back to their homes for a good night's rest. There were less cars on the streets now too, but there were still a few late night drivers going around. Street lamps turned on all around the city, dotting around like bright stars. After another fifteen minutes or so, the sky was almost completely dark, the sun completely set and the moon rising to take its place.  It was a quarter moon tonight, still beautiful and gleaming, but the usually spherical ball looked like someone had bitten a chunk out of it.

Another few minutes went by, and now the sky was a dark navy blue canvas, with small freckles of stars sprayed across the scene. It was beautiful, and Vania saved the memory in her heart forever.

By the time she got back to the apartment it was pretty late, so Vania was surprised to see Nya still awake on the living room couch, chatting with another girl with fiery red hair next to her. The two looked up when she entered, and Nya smiled in greeting.

"Hello Vania! Sorry, I wasn't sure if you'd be home or if you were staying another night at your friend's so I invited my friend over," she said sheepishly. Vania smiled back, shaking her head.

"It's okay," she replied, giving a small shrug. Vania looked back at the red head on the couch and frowned. She could've sworn she's seen her before.

"Vania, this is my friend Skylor. Skylor, this is my room mate Vania,"  Nya introduced. Skylor smiled, giving her hand for Vania to shake. Vania took it and smiled back.

"Anyways it's getting pretty late. You two have fun, I'll head to bed," she said, giving them a small nod. Nya nodded back, while Skylor frowned.

"What time is it anyways?" she asked, reaching over and grabbing her phone. Her eyes went comically wide, as Nya bent over her shoulder to see.

"Oh Sh-,"

"Holy crap. Yeah, we should head to bed soon too. Night Vania," Nya said, giving Vania a little goodbye wave. Vania just smiled, before quickly slipping into her room and getting ready for bed. She got changed into her shorts and tank top, brushed her teeth, washed her face and combed her hair, before falling back-first onto her bed. She lay there for a while, listening to her own steady heartbeat and the rise and fall of her chest, before after a while she heard the sound of talking, and then Nya and Skylor getting ready for bed. The click of a light switch closing sounded and the lights flickered off, before the entire apartment was consumed by silence and darkness. Another few minutes after that, sleep washed over Vania and she dozed off, her eyes flickering shut.

Vania woke up, gasping, beads of sweat trickling down her forehead and neck. She untangled herself from the blanket and swung her legs over the side of the bed, her body warm and over-heating. Her heart beat was rapid, hammering against her chest almost painfully, and she took many large gasping breaths to try and steady herself. After a few minutes of strained breathing, she got up and slowly made her way to the door. Vania didn't open the lights to avoid waking up Nya or Skylor, and made her way to the kitchen. To her surprise, she found that the kitchen light was already on and there was already someone in there, and after blinking several times so her eyes could adjust to the light, she found it was Skylor. The red head looked up as Vania entered, surprise also etched on her face.

"What're you doing up so late?" she asked. Vania came forwards, stepping towards the kitchen counter and taking a glass cup down from the cupboard.

"I could ask you the same thing," she responded, pouring herself a nice refreshing cup of cold water. Skylor frowned, looking Vania up and down, before her expression softened.

"Nightmare?"

Vania looked up in surprise, after chugging down the water and pouring herself another glass.

"How did you know?" she asked, taking a small sip. Skylor shrugged.

"You just look pretty messed up. No offence. And I know what people look like after a nightmare. My boyfriend gets nightmares all the time. So do I actually," Skylor says, also pouring herself a drink into a mug. Vania suspected it wasn't water but probably tea, but decided not to question it.

"You still haven't answered my question. Why are you awake?" Vania asked, turning on the tap and washing the glass. Skylor looked down and shrugged again.

"Just couldn't sleep," she said. Vania nodded in understanding, before a short silence passed between them.

The two eventually just slipped into small talk, quietly chatting for a bit. Vania found that she actually enjoyed talking to Skylor, and that she was a really interesting person to hang out with. Their conversation was cut when they heard footsteps, followed by the door opening, revealing Nya in the hallway.

"Are you guys having a girls' night without me?" asked the noirette, her arms crossed and her eyebrow raised in a playful manner. Skylor and Vania exchanged a quick look.

"Wouldn't dream of it," Vania said, smiling.

"Come join us," Skylor added. Nya closed the door behind her, before sliding onto one of the kitchen counter stools beside Skylor. Vania finished drying up the cup, putting it back in the cupboard and sitting opposite Nya. The trio eventually had a full blown conversation, before watching a movie on the couch and playing board games the entire night. In summary, none of them got any sleep that night, but Vania didn't mind.

A/N: So....Skylor is now officially introduced. She was like briefly mentioned in one of the other chapters but like, here she is now. Anyways I hope you enjoy and I'm sorry for the slow updates, but I hypothetically could update more often now that my other story is on hiatus because of my slipping motivation. I hope you liked this chapter and get ready for the next one. There'll be angst in like another few chapters, but I need to build up to it first. Anyways byeeee!
