Vania woke up that morning with the biggest headache in the entire universe. She didn't know why, but her temples felt so sore and her head was absolutely pounding. And no, it was most definitely not alcohol, since Vania doesn't and probably never will drink. For a solid ten minutes, Vania lay on her bed, staring blankly at the white, bare ceiling. It was 6:33 in the morning according to the clock on the wall, and Vania's roommate Nya was already off to work.
Nya and Vania weren't exactly close, especially as they've never really interacted. Since leaving home (or rather since home left her), Vania's needed somewhere to stay and Nya had given Vania the opportunity to stay in her apartment since Nya's old roommate had moved out. It was the only decent offer Vania had, so she'd accepted. The apartment was merely a place for Vania to stay, and she barely got to socialise with Nya at all. Nya usually left the house by 6:25 so she would be on time for work, and Vania usually didn't get back until late into the night or sometimes in the very early morning, because she was watching the sunset or stargazing. Most of the time, Vania would leave the apartment and roam Ninjago city the entire day. It was basically her daily routine: wake up, get ready, leave the house, do anything she feels like she needs to do, watch the sunset, go to bed. That was the cycle that repeated again and again and again, like an endless loop. She never really got bored of this though - Ninjago was a big place and there was always something for her to do. On the days where there weren't, she would just hang out at the park until she felt bored.
This morning, Vania got up and started off the day by getting ready. Her hair was a mess, so she reached for her hairbrush that was sitting on her dressing table and started running it through her locks of shiny golden hair. She trudged to the bathroom, where she brushed her teeth, washed her face and got dressed in a blouse, a white hoodie, a dark grey skirt and black tights before applying a little bit of makeup. On the way to the door, she grabbed the spare keys and put them in her purse before leaving the apartment room and getting into the elevator. She pressed the 'G' button, and waited as the lift slowly descended. The metal doors slowly opened up, revealing the outside world as Vania exited the lift, pushing open the apartment doors and entering the busy crowded roads of Ninjago city. The door swung shut behind her as a small cold breeze hit her face, the loud noises of the city not helping her head at all. After adjusting to the new noisy environment, Vania set out on her way to start the day.
Her first stop was to get breakfast, so she decided to stop by a little cafe a few roads down and order something. She arrived in front of the shop, pushed opened the door, stepped into the shop, a small bell tinkling as she did so, and walked up to the counter.
"Uh...hello. Can I have a croissant and a latte please?" Vania asked, squinting at the menu before taking out her purse. The accountant nodded, taking the cash from Vania's hand before bidding her goodbye. Vania collected her order before exiting the shop, walking down the street while sipping on her morning coffee.
Now that she had obtained some breakfast, she needed something to actually do for the day. Just then, she passed by the local library, so she decided she might as well go in to take a look around. And maybe after she picked something out, she could go to the park to read. That would give her something nice and productive to do for the day. Vania quickly finished her croissant and drank the last of her coffee, before pushing open the large oak doors and entering the library.
The library had a very large dome shaped roof made of stained glass, and rows and rows of books running around the wall and aisles cutting through the centre. There was a large majestic wooden staircase, leading people upstairs to hundreds of more shelves filled with many many books. It was like a small palace from fairytales, a cozy palace built from words and sentences and paragraphs.
Vania scanned the endless rows of books, each shelf crammed with different titles, and browsed through the aisles until she found a book that caught her eye. She stood on her tiptoes to try and reach, and huffed in annoyance when she found she was too short. Stupid height. Vania looked around for assistance, where she found a boy that looked around her age, maybe a year older, but was like a whole head taller. His head was bent over, a pair of headphones hung around his neck, his dark hair falling over his eyes but his attention completely focused on a book.
Vania approached him and tapped him on his shoulder, causing the boy to jump slightly and turn his head to face her. He looked surprised, but snapped his book shut and smiled at her.
"Hi. Can I help you?" he asked, confusion rimming his voice.
"Uhm...yeah. Could you maybe help me reach a book?" Vania asked sheepishly, staring at her hands. She was usually awkward around people. She had no idea what the heck to expect, probably to be turned down or ignored, but then she realised she was probably over thinking again, but what if she wasn't overthinking because-
She seriously needed to chill.
"Uh...sure," he said, shrugging slightly, and Vania let out a breathe she had no idea she was holding.
"Thanks," she said, and she showed him back to the spot where the book was. The two looked up at the tall shelf in silence.
"So...which book?" he asked. Vania bit her lip and pointed, jumping up a bit so her fingers just managed to brush the bottom of the spine of that book. The boy nodded, reaching upwards and taking the book down with ease, making Vania once again cursed her height. She wasn't short-short...just....below average.
"Here you go," the boy said, passing her the book. Vania smiled.
"Thank you!" she said, hugging the book against her chest.
"I'm Cole by the way," the boy said, a bit awkwardly behind his smile. Vania blinked. They were doing names now? She felt so stunned she completely forgot to speak. Vania was brought back to reality after a few seconds of awkward silence.
"Oh! Uhm. I'm Vania," she said.
"Well uhm. Pleasure meeting you. Bye," he said, giving a small wave, before turning around and leaving, disappearing around a corner.
"Bye," Vania whispered, watching as he left. Her blue eyes flickered to the ground as she stood there alone, zoning out into her own world of thoughts. She squeezed her eyes shut, before opening them again and sighing as she did so. Still holding the book in her arms, Vania got the book checked out, before she left the building and back onto the busy bustling streets of Ninjago city. She headed towards the park, but stopped outside a Starbucks for another coffee. It definitely wouldn't help her pounding head, but she needed another one. She just did.
After ordering a vanilla latte, she ambled down the street with her book clutched in her hand and made it to the park. Vania found a bench, where she sat down and flipped open her book, sipping on her latte while reading the first chapter. It was fairly quiet, just the sound of birds singing and the faint shouts of little children, but Vania could easily block that out. Before she knew it she was completely absorbed in the book, and she finally put in the bookmark and shut it at chapter 26. She checked the time on her phone: 12:02. Now it was time for lunch. Getting up from the park bench, she put her book into her tote bag, slipping the phone in too and made her way to a diner to eat. Vania looked around for the nearest available restaurant, and she saw something that looked nice; Chen's Noodle House. Stretching, she made her way there, throwing away her empty coffee cup and crossing the road while she walked. She needed to fricking eat before she starved to death.
When she entered, she found this place was busy has heck. It was noisy, filled with happy chatter (although she bet somewhere in here a couple were breaking up) and waiters and waitresses were bustling around, taking orders and delivering food. Vania found a nice little booth in the corner by the window, picking up the menu and scanning it. When she finally found something she liked, a tall red-head waitress came her way, a pen and notepad in hand.
"Hello, welcome to Chen's Noodle House. What can I get you?" the red-head asked, jotting down Vania's table number down and looking up. Vania internally panicked for a second, before taking a breathe and giving the waitress her order. She watched as her waiter quickly scribbled it down, before looking up again expectantly.
"Is that all?"
"Uhm...yes. Thank you," Vania said. The red-head nodded and disappeared into the crowd, and Vania slumped in her seat, letting out another breath. She internally groaned, rethinking literally all of her life choices. Life was so freaking tiring.
A/N: I know I said updates would be really slow, but I found I had a little bit of time to put a chapter together so here it is! Not 100% perfect but I produced a piece of work that wasn't completely horrid so yeah. If you enjoy the story then please give it a vote and thank you all so much for reading. Byeeee!
