Y/n sat in her bed for days. She was so week, and she didn't even know why. Jessper and Wylan took turns bringing her food and Nina played cards with her. She hadn't seen Kaz since she yelled at him.

"It's not your fault. Kaz just doesn't like admitting he was wrong, or admitting he has feelings."

Jessper was perched precariously at the end of her bed, admiring himself in her mirror.

Y/n rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, well no shit."

Jessper laughed.

"Here's a tip, just don't- "The door swung open cutting Jessper off. Kaz stepped inside the room, his cane clicking on the ground.

"Speak of the devil." Jessper muttered.

"Literally." Whispered Y/n.

"Jessper, out." Jessper stood up immediately and bowed sarcastically (If you can bow sarcastically) before waving a small goodbye to Y/n.

"No no no, Jessper finish that sentence." Y/n begged.

"Sorry love, maybe next time." Jessper shrugged before lightly closing the door. Leaving Kaz and Y/n alone.

Kaz waited a moment before speaking.

"You asked me why I would die for my pride. The answer is I wouldn't. Not anymore." He looked at his shoes. Those walls had finally fallen. Y/n could tell.

"And why is that Dirtyhands?" she inquired softly.

"Because, Y/n, I found something more important than pride. I had a visit last night, from an old friend."

Inej. The word echoed through her mind like a curse. His girl had finally come back for him.

"She told me that having people fear me is pointless if I have no one to protect with that fear." Kaz gripped his cane tighter.

"And I do have someone to protect, if you' wish for it." Y/n could feel Kaz's heartbeat, beating a million miles an hour, or maybe that was her own heart.

"Yes. I do wish for it. But I also wish for something else." Kaz nodded slowly.

"I want you to promise me that you will never ever do dangerous shit without me there to bring you back from the dead." Kaz pulled off his glove and held out his hand.

"The deal is the deal." Y/n took it.

"The deal is the deal." She could tell how hard he was trying not to flinch. She pulled him into a hug, making sure their skin didn't touch. She felt his body tense and then relax in her arms.

"I would have thought Jessper told you I'm not a hugger." He muttered.

"What a lie." Replied Y/n .
