A/N: in this one J and E are going to have their usual banter/light arguing going on but then Jacks says something that crosses the line and it really upsets her. He pretends not to care but let's be honest guys, of course he does. *non of this is actually plot for the book, just some fun* So, hope you like it! :)

Evangeline isn't sure how much more of spending time with the Prince of Hearts she can take. LaLa insisted they try and get along for her engagement party, but Fates, it was hard. Jacks hadn't stopped annoying her, and in turn she hadn't stopped snapping at him. They're currently stood next to a table piled high with spiced meat, colourful fruit, and steaming hot vegetable dishes; at the moment, she's having a go at him for being so cruel- although she knows that's rather unfair, considering not only his name-sake, but also his past contribute so the cold, and fatal gentleman monster of which he is.
He cuts her off, muttering something about her parents, and she shuts her mouth quickly with a loud click of her jaw. Evangeline tries not to react, but him saying it so harshly, and the fact she can barely let them go anyway, causes her to feel tears welling. He glances at her, something only someone with a keen eye could catch, but his eyes expression no emotion- much the opposite to her own. She looks down and turns, walking off into the crowd.

Soon, she finds herself wandering the halls, and eventually a library. She gasps through muffled tears. The walls are lined with dusty shelves upon shelves of antique books, all at least five times her age. The place seems almost ruined- like it's been forgotten by the Slaughterwood family, kept away from prying eyes. There's a thick scent of ancient paper and hundreds of years worth of dust and grime hanging in the air like a noose, and yet, Evangeline finds it strangely comforting. Maybe it's some sort of compelling magic, or just the fact that her cheeks are wet with tears and her throat burns, but she walks around, inspecting the books and tracing gold-embossed leather spines with the tips of her fingers, trying to forget the cruel words of the Fate.

(Here is a picture of the Library of my description was terrible and you need an example haha)

She wanders around for a few, before finding what looks to be a few trees growing into the corner of the library, their branches curling and forming a sort of shelter, six shelves up. The rose haired girl decides, although she's never been one for climbing trees, to hike up her skirts and tug herself up, sitting on the cave looking tree, legs handing over the edge. She grabs a random book, and, after blowing an absurd amount of bust from the cover, she begins reading.

*Jacks' POV (In third person which is definitely not confusing)*

The tears are gone, and she's read through three books by the time he finds her, she's reading her forth judging from the stack next to her, she looks up, and their eyes meet.
Jacks has always hated apologies. Even when he was younger, when he was 'Jacks of the Hollow'; it made him feel exposed, vulnerable. And vulnerability is not a trait to have when one is a Fate, especially one of his reputation. He feels -well, he's not completely sure what he feels. It pained him to see the mixed look of shock and hurt in his Little Foxes eyes, and it hurt more to know he was the one who put it there. He takes a slightly shaking breath, keeping eye contact with her.

"Little Fox-" he starts, honestly he's not sure what he's planning to say- and he hates that he feels the need to say anything at all.

"There's nothing to say, Jacks. It's fine." She doesn't even look up, her eyes stuck to the ink printed for entertainment.

"I didn't mean what I said." He grits out, jaw tight with his arms crossed.

"If you want to say anything at all, Jacks, at least try with that dead heart of yours to sound sincere." It's been a while since she said something sounding so harsh- he bites his tongue, eyes flaring.

He doesn't say anything, not wanting to worsen the situation. He most definitely should not feel this way about his key, and definitely shouldn't want to so desperately need her to at least tolerate him.

*Evangeline's POV*

Jacks doesn't say anything else, and out of the corner of her eye, she could of sworn she had seen him flinch at her words. He walks closer for a second, grabbing a book from the pile beside her. He then sits down against the tree she sat in, crossing his legs out in front of him; he starts reading, as she continues.

(Sorry for the interruption but just to quickly say that the song "my tears ricochet" by Taylor Swift makes me think of TBONA and no one can argue with me on that)

The two sit in silence reading, and although she is still mad, and he is still annoyed, they both feel calm. Calm next to each other, calm with each other. Of course, the calm will end. They'll go back to the party, back to cursed husbands, back to vampires and Fates and fatal kisses... but for now, in an old library forgotten by the world and raised by time, they were safe. With each other, they were safe.

A/N: 938 words. Im sorry but I'm not sure what the hell was going on with the last paragraph- I was feeling poetic (?). Anywho, vote and comment! Hope you liked it. Have a good day <3
