A/N: I know I need to continue the holiday ones and I'm sorry I haven't but I'm not feeling it rn so I'll probably write the next one or two tomorrow but for now I'm doing another one where Evangeline is on her period because not only does it annoy me that they are never really mentioned in books, but also I very touch starved and in pain so don't get mad at me please... I love you all and hopefully you enjoy this one....... Also I added a mention of another real book because why not so don't be too startled when you hear the name 'Cardan Greenbriar' because I love The Cruel Prince and it needs a mention (thanks Holly Black).

Evangeline wakes up with a jolt, groaning in annoyance when she remembers the sharp pain in her lower stomach. She turns on her side and looks out side through the window— the sun is hardly even up yet. Soon enough, she feels an arm loosen from around her waste- she'd seemed to have forgotten Jacks was in here with her. Jacks' arm moves so his hand rests on her stomach, fingers stroking back and forth gently. It still shocks her when the Prince of Hearts is remotely nice to her, never mind willing to stay with her all night and try to sooth something neither he nor her and control.

"Jacks?" She asks, seeing if he's fully awake.

"Hm," his breath is at the back of her neck. "Morning, Little Fox." Ignore the morning voice, Evangeline. Ignore it. "Are you okay?" He sounds genuinely concerned. Her heart melts a little.

"Yes I'm fine- but can you please let me go for a second? I'll be back in a moment." He's already let her go after the first sentence and she smiles, kissing the tip of his nose before getting up to go to the bathroom. She goes and cleans herself up, taking some herbs to help with the pain as-well, then makes her way back into her room, seeing Jacks sat up in bed, reading one of her books that was on her bedside table.

"Hey, Angel." He says, glancing up at her then back to the book— he seems rather engulfed by it.

"Hi. What are you reading?" Evangeline walks over to him and gets back in bed, knowing neither of them will get back to sleep. She moves to sit between his legs, leaning back against his chest and pulling her knees up, resting her chin on them.

"I'm not sure, the cover's missing." He places his chin on the top of her head.

"Oh it's called 'The Cruel Prince'..... it's one of my favourite books." I smile nervously up at him, looking at the page he's on. "It's the first book of three, and then there's a few novella's about... am I boring you?" I notice his eyes are closed, head tilted back. He smiles.

"No." He answers.

"Then why are you looking half asleep?" She asks, feeling a little self-conscious.

"I like hearing you talk about things you are passionate about. It calms me." He lifts his head up, placing a kiss on the side of her head.

"Oh-" Evangeline cuts off with a low groan, moving her legs to wrap her arms around her lower stomach.

"I know it hurts love, but it'll feel better soon enough." Jacks puts the books down and reaches his arms down to hold her arms, holding her close. She takes a breath and leans against him more. Evangeline moves again, turning so she's sat with her back more against one side of his chest and pulls her legs up so her feet are under his other leg, curled in almost a ball against chest, head resting in the crooks of his neck. He has one arm around his back, and another snaking around her so hid hand is resting on her thigh, thumb stroking back and forth.

"Thank you for looking after me." She says after a while, fisting his shirt as another sting of pain shoots through her stomach. "Why do you want to, though?" She's curious, and needs to take her mind of her cramps.

"It's strange, but since I met you, I've had a strange and serious need to protect you at all costs. Although, sometimes I can't, or I'm the thing you need protecting from and I know you don't want protecting, nor you need it most of the time. But I still want to. I just want to keep you warm and safe and away from harm, preferably in my arms." After he says that, her eyes start to prickle with tears. Why is she crying? "Are you okay?" A crease forms between his eyebrows as she starts sobbing hysterically.

"I'm- fine-" she starts laughing at how much she's crying, the cried again, then something in between, and she's certain she sounds positively insane.

"You don't really sound it, Angel." Evangeline is somewhere between balling her eyes out and laughing until her lungs hurt. She feels crazy.

"I am, just- I sound crazy." Evangeline snorts and he smiles at her.

"It's still early morning, Little Fox, I think you're sleep deprived- try and sleep." His voice is amused, probably from the fact the girl in his arms is crying, laughing and snorting all at once.

"Okay." She says, taking breaths to calm down then snuggling closer to him, breathing in the scent of apples and magic and something magical and delicious.

A/N: this was on the shorter side but I think it's cute but then again I might just be delirious so hope you enjoyed love you all xx
