Erik's POV

Nothing was the same. Now Marco would always exclude me from his table at meals. It was very weird. Everyone notice that there was a big thing going on, but I don't think they knew what it was, or they just didn't want to know at all.
Mel wasn't talking to me either. That was also strange. Okay, that I was trying to make them break up, but we were still friends. At least I think so.
Marco and Mel didn't seem like a couple since a couple days ago. Which was really weird due the fact that they were always together. ALWAYS. They would always do everything together. However, now she was spending more time with Lisa, Müller's wife, than with her boyfriend. So, I decided to talk to her before breakfast.
"Hey, Mel" I said after her in line to get the meal
"Hi, Erik" she said a little 'rude', which was weird. Well, not that weird but still.
"How's life? How are you?"
"Eh, you know. Nothing new. But I'm fine, thanks. And you?"
"I'm amazing. But wow. Just fine? Wow. What's going on?"
"I said I'm fine! What do you want me to say? I'm good, amazing, awesome, couldn't be better! It's that good enough for you, Erik?" She said heading to a table and I went right after her.
"Hey, I'm sorry, okay? It's uncommon to see you 'just fine' but okay, I'll go with that" I said as she started to eat her oatmeal.
"I'm sorry, I'm just really hungry" she laughed "Is that anything special you wanted to ask me?"
"Nah. It can wait" I laughed and started to drunk my orange juice.

When I was walking to my room, after training, I saw Mel waiting outside, like she was waiting for me.
"Hey, can I talk to you for a second" she said
"Sure, liebe. Come in" I said smirking while opening the door. We entered and I sat on the bed and she on the chair. "So, what's going on? I know you would never come and talk to me if it wasn't an extreme situation"
"I told Marco that I loved you" tears started to fall from her eyes "and that I needed sometime to figure out who I really loved. But he got angry and said that he desagreed and who would decide the future of our relationship was him"
I was so surprised by what she had just told me that only after some seconds I realised what was happening. "So, it that all true, do you really love me?" I asked stunned.
"Well... It's complicated" she said trying not to look at me.
"What do you mean with that?" I mumbled.
"I love Marco so much that it hurts... But you were so much caring for me at this trip, that I can't really decide what it's right" she said trying not to tear up again.
"I can't believe what I'm about to say, but how can you have mixed feelings about this? You date Marco for so long and we know each other since you two started this relationship. I don't want to insult you, but really? I could just stole you now, but even I am confused and shocked with this bunch of information." I stopped a little to breath "Look, Mel, I love you. But it maybe only be a crush. However, I know you and Marco are made for each other. It may not seems as it but you two need each other. You two complete each other. You are like ying and yang. Ball and soccer players. Ice cream and hot fudge. Popcorn and cinema. Okay, I'm getting out of focus, but I hope you got the idea. The point is, you cannot waste a perfect and ideal relationship, because of a stupid guy that fell in love with you. It isn't right. Try talking to Marco. I know you guys tried to talk before and ended up in this huge mess, but I think this time will work out." I said it proud, not understanding a single thing I just said, yet really, really proud.
Mel started wiping her tears and said: "Thank you, Erik. You really are a friend of mine. It's on this situations, that we discover those friends that will always be with us, that are our real friends" she smiled, hugging me and whispered "thank you" and walked away, closing the door behind her. I still don't know what happened there, but I knew I had lost my only chance with Melanie Hummels.
