To some, Darkness was frightening. Associated with darkness and fear. It is the fear of not being able to see your way out of a dark room, or a void of emptiness. The fear of it leaves you on edge, expecting the worst to happen.
Cordelia took comfort in darkness. In darkness, you can't see, but your senses are heightened. You can hear better, smell better, touch better. If nothing is there then you are totally alone and when you are alone no one can hurt you.
