"Okay then," I said, without any thoughts put into it.
"Answering my question-" he looked out the window, staring at people walking by, "what are your hobbies?"
"Violin, nothing much to be honest..."
"Ohh, what's your favorite piece to play?" he grinned, gently moving his eyes back to me.
"Spring by Vivaldi..." I murmured, throwing my gaze from one walking by person to another.
"Ohhh, I love it, will you play it for me?"
"Your crazy ass won't hear anything I play, you don't deserve it."
"Haha, okay, okay."
We took the silence to its peak. I didn't feel the need to talk, but, at the same time, I was too bored to not talk.
"Your order is ready!" the barista cried to us, putting a pretty cup up at our sight.
I walked up to the counter, throwing a quick gaze at Jūzō, before gently wrapping my fingers around this masterpiece.
"They have pretty cups, aren't they?" Suzuya smiled, staring at the tiny leaves drawn out on the lining of the cup.
"I guess," I said, seating myself by the table.
I sipped the liquid that didn't appear to have any particular taste. I was looking out the window, people still walking there.
"Do you like it?" Jūzō asked, his smile turning into a wider grin.
"It's fine."
"So, what do you want to talk about?"
"Whatever you want, I don't care."
"Then I'm gonna ask you some questions... um, do you like anything about ghouls?"
"What? Why would I like anything about them?" I ask, trying to hide my rage.
"I heard you are a ghoul, do you like anything about your species?"
"I'm not a ghoul!" I cried, spilling a small puddle of tea on the table, "I'm mostly human, I can eat human food, I behave like a normal human being, that's all you're allowed to know..."
"I know, but you're still somewhat a ghoul, right?"
"Will you protect my boundaries or something?" I asked, my eyes widening.
"Oh, sorry."
We sat in silence even longer than usual, the barista watching us quietly. I was sipping my tea, he was watching the people walk by with me.
Something felt really wrong. The atmosphere was cold and silent, there was nothing going on. I started watching the people closely. Everything about them was bothering me deep inside.
In around ten minutes I saw Suzuya's face change. His pale eyelashes fles up, the lips twitching lightly.
I tried to pretend I didn't see it, but it was getting kind of annoying, and I wanted to tell him to stop. I was curious, too, but not as much.
"Are you okay?" I asked, Suzuya not refocusing his attention on me.
"I think our job isn't done yet." he said, his voice bringing fear in me.
"Is it something bad?"
"I don't usually get scared of death, but it seems like today is the day to be scared of it..."
"What? What are you talking about?"
"There is The Cold Eye..."
"What? Are you crazy?"
A loud creak echoed through my ears, two heavy footsteps getting closer. I gazed back to the source of the noise, a familiar face looking right at me. It was the man Jūzō had mentioned. The Cold Eye - the guy who has always been following me everywhere. He was from Canada - my birth place. I always blamed myself for bringing him here, but it didn't make sense to me. I just couldn't believe it. He was the scariest guy in the ghoul society. The world hasn't seen anyone like this, he needed his special rank.
"How are you, Alex?" he said in English, Jūzō having no idea what he was talking about.
Suzuya feared this guy, and this guy was his only fear.
The Cold Eye jumped over to the barista, cutting him in half with the only iron stick chilling in his hands.
"I know you knew this was going to happen, don't be surprised, haha!" he cried, jumping up to Jūzō, pushing him to the ground.
Suzuya knew the man wasn't going to kill him; if he could, he would do it already.
I didn't say anything. I was an A rated ghoul, so I was no match for him. I didn't know how I had been able to survive for all of this time, but this was the time to prove that I could survive once more.
"Hey, are we going to play?" he cried, getting away from Jūzō.
"No, I didn't come here to play games."
I jumped before my partner, pushing him as far as possible. I didn't hope for the best, but I believed in it.
There was no one to call the cops, but I knew this wasn't my end, it just couldn't be. I tried to fight him, using as much strength as I could. It wasn't happening, no it wasn't.
"Why didn't I take my qlinque?.." I heard Jūzō whisper, noticing him messing around with the coffee-making equipment.
Didn't he actually believe he was able to kill someone with a simple knife? I knew he was crazy, but I didn't think he was that stupid.
I watched him while trying to fight. I couldn't take my gaze off of his movements around the counter. I hoped this was going to help somehow. But...
