Content warnings for discussions of Republicans and homophobia. At this point in history, Republicans are a content warning. FYI, coming in here and arguing with me about this will get your comments deleted. Republicans hate women, they perpetuate trans genocide, and with the current political climate, this is not a difference of opinion. Their entire party is fucking racist, homophobic, transphobic, and xenophobic. My books are a safe space from that shit, so don't bring it here.

Once again, please remember to vote and comment. Engagement is so important and I hate sounding like a broken record, but authors really need support for all of the work we do for free!

FIONA

January 18, 2023

She said she liked him.

She said she liked him.

And what was worse, is that she was having a fucking amazing time with him. His arm slung around her shoulder in the car, playing with her hair the entire drive back into town. She felt little sparks and shockwaves all the way down her spine that made her eyes close. Bea used to do this for her on long drives when they were dating.

Sometimes, when they watched TV together, she would braid and play with Fiona's hair. For some reason, Fiona found a comfort in it, a ritual she had missed out on during childhood that embedded itself into her as an adult.

Fiona looked up at him as he drove, her playlist for him playing in the background. She wanted to ask him about them, about what would happen between them, but it was going so well that she just didn't want to push it.

They had great sex, he was funny, charming, sweet, gorgeous, and creative.

He was also deeply sensitive.

She didn't expect any of this.

Fiona expected an asshole who refused to commit.

He didn't have to open up the way he did about his daughter. He could have kicked her out this morning when he found her in Matilda's room, but he didn't.

Neither of them said a word for a long time, until they reached downtown Portland. James stopped at a stoplight and turned to her, kissing her softly. She giggled against his mouth.

"What was that for?"

He blushed and shrugged his shoulders.

"I guess I just kinda like ya, is all."
