CW: Soft smut on a roof, dirty talk, daddy kink, Sergeant kink, discussions of grief and death, discussions of miscarriages (it's just a story that's told, not something a character is dealing with), ADHD rep (Fiona has it, but it's not stated but I wrote her as someone with ADHD).

The text I briefly (and probably poorly) cover is Policing the Crisis: Mugging, the State, and Law and Order by Stuart Hall. I wrote four papers on Policing the Crisis and it's the book I was "best at" during my PhD seminars where you have to lead a discussion for three hours on a single text. It's to give you teaching experience while you're evaluated by the professor and to prove that you can lead a discussion. It's the most nerve-racking thing in the world.

Btw, the stuff I briefly cover in Policing the Crisis is all true. In the 70s the UK government enacted incredibly racist policing policies and created a moral panic to arrest young Black men. It's fucking disgusting and a lot of those policies are still in place today. Everyone should read this book. The stuff about language is all from a doctoral paper that I wrote on 2 days of no sleep and four Red Bulls. Do not recommend. Got an A+ but it wasn't worth hallucinating at 12 in the afternoon.

JAMES

January 19, 2023

"Okay, weirdest place you've had sex," she laughed as she stuffed a sushi roll into her mouth.

"Aside from this office?" James asked.

"Yep."

"I lost my virginity in a Burger King parking lot," he confessed.

Fiona's jaw dropped and she couldn't stop laughing. James shook his head, his cheeks pink.

"Are you serious?!"

"Dead serious."

"Front seat or back seat?"

"Front seat."

"James!" She howled, laughter filling the office.

It had been so long since someone really laughed in here. Fiona was keeled over, her face red and her shoulders shaking. When she finally came up for air, her cheeks were bright pink and those warm hazel eyes that were the same color as his favorite whiskey sparkled in the light. All he could think of was that he wanted to make her laugh every single day.

"And then I bought her a sandwich as an apology."

"Why?" Fiona giggled.

"Because I came after about 35 seconds. And she cried because she thought it was her fault. I never saw her again until prom."
