We ran together as one the small herd of panicked deer drew closer. One stumble was all it took and we would be fed.The herd veered to the left into a patch of trees where they thought it would be harder for us to follow but wolves were made for running. We easily kept up with them. A buck tripped and fell. Panic visible in his eyes. We had it surrounded in seconds, Alpha pounced and made the kill. The herd of deer ran away knowing their brother had fallen and knowing there was nothing they could do. Alpha was pleased. It was a large buck and would help our pack survive through the famine.

We worked together to drag the kill miles back to our den where hungry mouths waited. The pups ate first and filled quickly, Alpha ate next. When he was full, the mothers ate next, then the rest of the pack fell on the carcass competing for even the smallest scraps of meat. Omega sulked and waited for the bustle to die down and the kill to empty then slunk forwards to nibble on the remains which by now was nothing but bones. The pups retired to their dens to sleep, the mother followed for the stories that made up your childhood. "The moon and the sun were best friends when they were young" began one mother as she stretched out on the den floor content with the meal. "they would play together and do what any normal pup would. But as they grew older they grew further apart for the sun became a trickster and a deceiver. Then one day they began to fight the sun would say ' the night is ugly and dark and it's dumb! My day is better and prettier than your night will ever be.' and the moon would say 'well the day is too bright and it blinds me! And the night is filled with beautiful stars that you can never see because of your blinding light!' As they fought the sun grew hotter and hotter and the moon began to feel dizzy and confused, blinded with rage and confusion the moon yelled 'very well then sun I BANISH you to roam your never ending day never to see the night and never to see ME again!' and saying this the moon cast a great magic over the sun and he seemed to dim for a moment then he vanished to the other side of the world for it was night at the time, and to this day we respect the moon for the great gift of night and light in the darkest of times so to respect the moon we howl our thanks to it each night" as she finished the tale the pups sighed happily in their sleep.

The patrols left to secure the boundaries and make sure no unwanted guests had snuck in. As they slid into the trees a scent drifted into the den it smelled of fish, rotten fish. The pack went on alert mode everyone of us sented the air.The wind changed directions and the smell vanished.
