Just as Astrid said these words a snake with scales as black as a moonless starless midnight dangled itself from a tree branch. "Astrid child, you have been tricked by the sun, hide yourselvesssss, these are warriorssssss who will kill you first and ask quesssstions later." Astrid was about to tell the snake to be gone for it had black scales as the rabbit had warned but just then the approaching scout said "whens I finds that little scoundrel who was howlen ima rips him aparts and eats his flesh for breakfasts." A voice responded "the pupzez has been gone for more than twelve weeks."Astrid turned to Juniper ''scratch that, uh i suggest we hide and attack from the side." she rolled her eyes and whispered "make up your mind." They dove into the bushes to the side of the trail and stood still. The scoats pushed through the dense trees and into the area where Astrid and Juniper hid. They were so skinny that their ribs showed through their scar covered coats. These were definitely not friends. Suddenly there was a hiss in Astrid's ear. " Do you trusssst me now?" Astrid stifled a startled yelp, hadn't the snake just been in the tree across the pass. The scouts went on alert, their ears pricked listening for a sound. " I smell somthingz comeings this way." The first scout turned to the second and whispered in a terrified voice "hu hu hu HUMAN!!!!!!!" They ran so fast the human could have been standing right in front of them pointing a gun at their fleeing tails. That was when the smell hit them the humans smelled like it hadn't cleaned itself in days and it smelled like a skunk that had been thrown in rotting deer carcass. Then they heard it. CRuNCh! Astrid froze, humans had not been seen in the valley for more than 2000 years. Then they saw it. It turned to a female and started saying things that made no sense. "Hiw brt hre mi derling?" the female sighed then responded with equally confusing nonsense. "Me gurs is urk. Me strt surt urp th cmp.'' Then the male human walked back into the trees we jumped when we heard a loud growl and the breaking of sticks and leaves. That was when the metal snout poked through the trees and a beast made of metal broke through. The side of the beast swung open and the male and 2 small pups jumped out; they looked to be only four or five. "What the heck?" Astrid whispered. "Shhh!" Juniper responded. "Assssstrid!" The snake suddenly said panic in his voice "look" that was when we spotted the scout sneaking up behind the male. "NO!!" Juniper yelled leaping out of the bush just as they leaped at the human. She took them by surprise. The male screamed and leaped away as she leaped and tore the throat out of one of the scouts. The other snarled as Astrid snuck behind the remaining scout but instead of leaping at Juniper he leaped at the male and sunk him fangs into his chest. The male gasped for air and collapsed to the ground. The female screamed to the pups and they ran to the metal beast and quickly disappeared. The female ran to the male's side, water streaming down her cheeks. The scout turned to her next. Juniper leaped at him but too late he tackled the female and sunk his teeth into her neck. Astrid leaped and tackled the scout off the female. They began to circle each other. Astrid yelled to juniper. "Check on the female, the male is dead." The scout leaped and he ducked and raked his claws on the scout's stomach and ran out of the way as he collapsed to the ground. The scout stood and his legs wobbled and he fell dead to the ground his guts in a growing puddle of blood in the dirt.. Astrid ran to Juniper. " What were you thinking!" he said to her. "They had pups I had to try." her voice was hard, she stood and spoke. "She is dead."
