ARTHUR LEYWIN

"Congratulations Sir and Madam, they're healthy children," were the first words I heard as I came into this world.

I slowly opened my eyes to see my mother and father looking back down at me. I felt shuffling next to me and I turned to see my brother.

He turned to look at me and we both stared at each other for a few seconds until we both fell asleep.

3 Years Later...

It's been a few years and I in those few years, I passed a milestone for a young infants! I can crawl baby! My brother, who's name I found out to be Jayden, learned how to crawl a few days later.

Jayden looked exactly like me, but instead of my bright, azure eyes, he had our mother's brown eyes. That was the only way our parents could tell us apart. Even with that defining feature however, they still mixed us up sometimes. (like how?)

Well anyways, ever since I learned how to crawl, I started sneaking into the study. I think it's been a 2 years since my first trip there. I also started bringing Jayden along with me! He seems to understand my motive. Recently, he's been reading a book about fire magic.

Oop! It's time for the daily trip to the study. I signaled to Jayden and he nodded. Once our mother left the room, closing the lights as she walked out, we rolled out of our cribs, and snuck past our mom.

It took a few seconds, but we made it to the study! Now where is that book I was reading?

Ah! Found it! I grabbed the book off the shelf and and looked to Jayden. His head was in the book. Literally. How does someone read like that? I will never understand.

I looked back at my book at started reading. "A Beginner's Guide to Magic"

"While the power to control mana is largely genetic, there are many cases where children of magic come out unable to sense the mana around them. A recent study showed that roughly 1 in 100 children are able to sense mana, but the extent of which could only be tested when their mana core first completely developed—anywhere from their early adolescence to late teen years. It will be apparent when a mage first awakens by the initial repellence of the surrounding mana when their mana core manifests . This results in a translucent barrier forming around the awakened that lasts a couple of minutes."

"flip"

"Blah blah blah"

That healing light though... What was my mother?

"flip, flip, flip"

AHA!

"There are a few, rare deviants. The two most well-known types of deviants are elemental deviants and Emitters. While there are still some undiscovered, ones that are highly sought after are the Emitters, more commonly known as healers. Healers possess the rare ability to cast their unique restorative mana unto others, directly, recovering injuries and impairments."

Wow... mom is the best.

All of a sudden, a voice exclaimed behind me, "Art, Jay, what are you doing here?

I turned around to see our mother staring at us.

"You guys should not be here," she exclaimed as she picked us up.  She paused for a second before wrinkling her face.

" Art, Jay, honey, are you having trouble taking a poopy?"

I'm about to begin my journey to become the greatest mage in the world! Do not make me out to be a constipated infant! MOM.

Picking us up and gently placing me in her arms, I was forcibly taken away to have my diaper changed, which was full by the time I noticed.

Jayden Leywin
Arthur and I have been trying to form our core ever since we read that cool book!  I don't think we've made a lot of progress but I'm not too concerned. Although, using the fire magic I saw in a guide would be really cool.

Anyways, right now, I'm just being thrown in the air while Art is watching.  My father seems to think that throwing a child into the air would be quite enjoyable. While I understand there would be a kind of adrenaline effect that may excite some people, when mana was used to reinforce his arms, and I got thrown into the air like a high-speed projectile, the only feeling I had was nausea and a traumatic fear of heights.

Our mother got him to calm down before lecturing him. He sulked as he walked outside to practice his mana manipulation.

Once I recovered from the effect of being thrown in the air, Arthur and I went to continue trying to form our mana cores.

We walked into Art's bedroom  and we were in the room trying to condense the mana particles when all of a sudden...

*BOOM*
