Chapter 17: His Insecurity

Aarav woke up at night to drink the water, he picked up the water bottle but it was empty. He moves out of the room and stops in front of Khushi's room. He lightly opened the door and found her sleeping peacefully. She had a smooth smile on her face which he had rarely seen. He walked into the room picked up the blanket from the floor and covered her with it.

He was about to place his hand but didn't want to disturb her sleep and turn her happiness into anger. He gets up and moves to the shelf. He glanced at the trophy "Best Science Project with family" He touched it and smiles proudly at his daughter's achievement but he was also saddened by the fact that he couldn't become part of it.

There was a picture of Khushi with Manvi on the clipboard. He removed it and stared at it, he turned it and it was written "Meri nayi dost.."

He pinned it back and walked out of the room. He remembered his behavior with Manvi that other day. He insulted her and even tried to take advantage of her despite that she returned to teach her and even went with her on the educational trip which brought a smile to his daughter's face. In these years, he failed to make a place in heart of his daughter despite being her father and she became her friend in just a few weeks.

He lays down on the bed but the sleep was away from his eyes. He opens the side drawer and takes out the medicine. He gulps it down with water and then sleeps for just a few minutes.

The next day, Aarav freshens up and moves downstairs. He sat down on the chair for the breakfast. Jenny served him breakfast. He asked "Khushi?"

"Bas aa rahi hai" Sharda replied keeping Khushi's breakfast on the table. After a minute, Khushi steps down and sits on the chair.

"Daadi pata hai kal subah main school gayi na toh mujhe bahut gussa aaya sab students apne parents ke saath jaa rahe they.. Aur Mr. Malhotra ki wajah se wo principal koshish kar hi rahi thi main jaa hi nahi paau apni dost ke saath" Khushi spoke

Aarav stared at her, his expression changed to insecurity.

"Lekin unhone aise explain kiya ki principal chup ho gayi! Aur mera day best ho gaya.. Unhone mujhe apne haath se sandwiches khilaye" Khushi shared.

"Ye toast thande kyun hai?? Sandwiches aur toast har din khane se sehat kharab hoti hai! Kuch aur banake leke aao" Aarav yelled

Khushi stared at him and smiles "itne saalo se kha rahe hai lekin aaj inse sehat kharab hoti hai?" she said sarcastically.

Aarav eyed at her and said softly "tum kuch bhi kha sakti ho.. Kisine nahi roka hai tumhe"

"Aap rok bhi nahi sakte ho.." Khushi said

Jenny returns from the kitchen with something else and Aarav eats it. Khushi finishes her breakfast and said "daadi main apne room mein jaa rahi hun aur 12 baje mam aayengi mujhe padhane.."

Aarav eyed at her and said "lekin aaj toh Sunday hai na..."

Khushi glared at him "mujhe padhna hai phir bhi.."

"Lekin maine socha tha.." he said but Khushi interpreted "aapko ache se pata hai mujhe aapke saath kahi jaane mein interest nahi hai phir bhi kyun aap har sunday koshish karte rehte ho mujhe convince karne ke liye" she shouted

"Wahi toh dikkat hai na Khushi..wo kal ki aayi lady tumhari dost ho gayi aur main kuch bhi nahi hun tumhare liye" he said softly but with a touch of anger in his voice

"Haan toh kya karenge aap? Maa ki tarah unhe bhi mujhse door kar denge? Kaan kholke sun lijiye agar aapne apni ye power unpe dikhaya na toh main ghar se bhaag jaungi!" she warned him

Aarav sighed deeply, he got up and moved upstairs to his room closing the door with a bang.

Aarav's phone rings, and he picks it up "Hello" he said in a cold tone
