After everyone got situated and comfortable with the new arrangements, Mrs. Riley went on with the lesson like normal. However, she did give a quick recap on what the class was learning about for Ashley so that she wasn't too confused.
"Okay, so everyone will have to do a project with a partner, the project will be on Common food adulterants in fat, butter, oil, turmeric powder, pepper, chili powder, sugar, etcetera." Mrs. Riley explains as she looks amongst the entire class. "Now, if you feel you really would like to work on your own, you can come and ask - but I would like if you would please work with someone. Any questions?"
A girl with brunette hair and glasses raised her hand. "When is this due?" She asks.
"I'm thinking this Friday. That should be plenty of time to get it done, if you do however need more time, just ask." Mrs. Riley answered then smiled.
The brunette girl nodded then turned back to her own work.
"Any other questions?" The teacher asked once more.
No one raised their hands so Mrs. Riley simply nodded, and walked back to her desk. Before she sat down, she spoke up, "I will let you choose your partners. Be kind, and don't leave anyone out. If you need to invite someone into your group, a three person group is fine with me."
Everyone gave their own sign of acknowledgement.
"Well, I'm going to be working alone." Viper turned around and said to her friend group.
"Who didn't see that coming?" Jane teased with a small smile.
Viper rolled her eyes playfully, before getting up to go ask the teacher if she could be alone to work on the project.
"Mimi and I want to work together, we already decided on it." Lareina said, looking at Y/N and Jane.
"Okay, I guess that leaves us two-." Jane began, but was cut off abruptly.
"I want to work with you, Y/N." Ashley spoke up, suddenly.
Jane, Mimi, and even Lareina looked over in surprise at the sudden and slightly loud interruption.
Y/N looked to Ashley and smiled slightly. Y/N looked back to Jane with a look that had 'sorry' written all over it. But Jane just shook her hands in understanding.
"No, no, don't feel bad Y/N, I can just join Mimi and Lareina's group. Don't sweat it." Jane whispered comfortingly to Y/N, giving a friendly wink.
"Thanks, Jane. You're the best." Y/N gave her friend a grateful smile.
Jane got up and walked towards Mimi and Lareina's table, explaining to them the situation and they gladly allowed her to join their group.
"So, what made you want to be my partner so bad?" Y/N giggled slightly, referring to the slight outburst from just a few moments ago.
Ashley gave a partial smile.
"Sorry, about that," She chuckled nervously. "I was going to speak up sooner to ask you, but for some reason I didn't, and just spat it out at the wrong time."
"That's okay, I get it. That happens to me sometimes too." Y/N laughs a little.
"I also wanted us to try and work on our friendship...maybe this could help build it..?" Ashley thought aloud.
Y/N gave a sympathetic and kind smile. 'Who would have thought that the girl I use to despise just a few days ago, was now saying such sweet things to me?'
"That sounds like a great idea." Y/N nodded in agreement.
