soleil - the sun{——}
12 August 1989
Number 12 Grimmauld Place was usually a quiet and uneventful home. Today was different.
"Soleil Black you better not be experimenting with potions again or-"
boom!
A loud explosion echoed from above him and Remus knew Soleil had managed to gain access to the cauldron once more. The tired man raced up the stairs and into the potions room, which he could've sworn he locked. He opened the door to find the black haired girl standing over a small cauldron that seemed to be blue with pink smoke rising from it.
"Look Moony! I made the Cure for Boils potion all by myself!" Soleil exclaimed excitedly. Her wavy hair was standing up at odd angles and there was a bit of soot on her face, but despite her messy demeanor she was grinning from ear to ear.
"Cure for Boils? Well, you might run old Snivellus out of business with your potions once you get to Hogwarts." Remus responded, a warm smile on his face. He knew he shouldn't encourage her making potions unsupervised but he had a soft spot for the happy smile on the girl's face.
Soleil beamed at the older man before beginning to bottle up the potion in the cauldron. She grabbed several empty vials from the shelf behind her and carefully filled each one. After they had been filled, she placed them in a box lined with bubble wrap. "Here you go, you can sell these for me right Moony?"
Remus sighed and took the box from the girl. "Yes alright, but you had better go and make yourself presentable. You know we have things to do today." He responded, tucking the box under his arm. He's sure he could get a good price for the potions somewhere in Diagon Alley, which happened to be their first destination.
Soleil nodded and made her way out of the room, skipping along as she went. Remus made his way down to the kitchen, taking care not to rouse the portrait of Walburga Black as he passed it. The woman had calmed significantly with the presence of her heir Soleil in the house, but seeing Remus still sent her into a fit of rage.
Remus placed the box on the dining table and ran a hand through his hair. He had sworn long ago that he wouldn't let any harm come to Soleil. However, that task was proving difficult with the girl's curious nature and inherited penchant for mischief. It seemed she was experimenting or brewing dangerous things at every turn. She reminded him of Sirius more every day.
Before he had any time to think more about the similarities between Soleil and her father, the girl herself appeared in the doorway to the kitchen. "Come on Remus, I want to see if they have any new plants at the Apothecary!" She exclaimed excitedly, seemingly never running low on energy.
"Alright alright, let's get on with it then." Remus responded with a grin, holding the box in one hand as he took Soleil's hand in the other. He closed his eyes, thinking of the many shops lining the crooked street, the smells of vendors selling various products, and the sound of people bustling through the alley. When he opened his eyes again, they were just outside of the brick wall leading to Diagon Alley.
Soleil swayed on her feet a bit, still not used to apparition. She gripped Remus's hand for support before opening her eyes and smiling once more. She immediately began tugging him along to the different shops they needed to go to. Soleil had been ecstatic when she received her Hogwarts letter months ago, and now they were buying her supplies.
