Cassie
Time comes to a screeching halt as everyone around the cafeteria and patio take in the text. My friends sneak glances at me trying to gauge my reaction.
I am frozen.
My Mason kissed Kenzie? It’s not like I expected absolute loyalty from him but we have known each other our whole lives and have been a couple for two years. How could he do this to me?
Of all the people he could have chosen to betray me with, why did it have to be Kenzie?
I though he had better taste.
Everyone starts talking all at once accept my table. I still manage to hear a chair topple over, I see the back of Kenzie’s head as she rushes out of the cafeteria.
She created this mess and she thinks she can just run away?
I go after her.
“Kenzie!”
As she turns to face me I slap her across the face. My hand stings, I might have underestimated my own strength.
“After everything my parents have done for you, this is how you repay us? Was this always your plan? Now that you are about to turn 18, were you worried you wouldn’t be able to leech off of us anymore? Did you think Mason will be your new cash cow?”
“Firstly let that be the last time you raise your hand at me because next time I will hit back.” she says brown eyes glaring at me.
“How dare you! After all you have done, you have no right to act so self-righteous. Once my parents hear about this you will have to leave Wellington. Let’s see how you go to college then.” I say laughter bubbling out without any humor.
“I can’t believe you actually thought Mason would leave me for you. He is way too smart and has too good of taste to leave a real King for a poor imitation.”
“That text is not true” she says.
“What? We all so the picture!”
“But it doesn’t tell the whole story. Yes Mason did kiss me but I pushed him away. Not out of some twisted sense of loyalty to you, we don’t have the kind of relationship, but because I am not interested in Mason. I told him as much. That picture just happened to be taken in the split second it took for me to react.” Kenzie says.
“You rejected Mason Ahn? Ha! You expect me to believe that? Please, everyone wants Mason.” I scoff.
Does she think I’m stupid?
I notice how everyone looks at Mason, greedily taking him in trying to figure how to be him or get him to notice them.
I also see how they look at me, with pure envy in their eyes.
“I guess I am immune.” she says and walks away.
Mackenzie needs to learn that her actions have consequences. I will gladly teach her that lesson.
It’s what sisters are for, right?
