The atmosphere at home was stifling after France declared war on big brother, so I decided to go out by myself for a while. I wasn't sure where I was going to go, but I needed to get out of here for a while.
I just wandered for a while, not sure where to go. I didn't feel like getting ice cream or coffee, and movies were awfully expensive. Besides, I didn't know what was out now. As I was pondering this, I smacked into something hard ad warm.
I let out an, "Oof!" as I fell on my ass, and looked up to see a man wearing a white scarf and a coat. He smiled down at me.
"Are you alright?" he asked.
I nodded, brushing my jeans off as I stood up. "I'm sorry, my mind was elsewhere."
He gave me that innocent, little boy's smile again and shook his head. "Da, it's okay, I was daydreaming too. About vodka. And snow."
I blinked. Who was this man? Was this...? "You're Russia, right?"
The man gave me that smile again. "Da, I am Mother Russia, and will bring all other countries to their knees while I watch them beg for their lives." This was said with the same smile plastered on his face, and gave an extremely creepy effect.
"Um, okay..." I said. Suddenly he reached out for my head, his fingers catching in my hair, pulling a few away and making
them shine gold in the sunlight. He took his hand away and show me the little piece of leaf he had grabbed.
"You had leaf stuck to your hair," he explained. Suddenly he turned back around to what I realized was a sunflower cart. "Which ones should I buy?" he asked.
He was...buying sunflowers? This was a strange country.
"Um... How about this one?" I said, pointing to one that looked particularly beautiful. He smiled as he nodded and grabbed it.
"More, da?" he asked. I smiled and nodded, pointing to a few.
Russia smiled as he grabbed them. He turned to the cashier and paid for the flowers.
When he turned back to me, he held one out for me. "Take this," he said. "It's my way of saying thank you for helping me choose them. And it brings out the gold in your eyes."
I took the flower silently, not sure what to say to that. As he walked away, I finally called out, "Thank you!"
Russia turned and smiled at me, saying, "Da!"
I held the flower close all the way home, and smiled at big brother England as I walked through the door. "I met Russia today," I said.
England's face went white. "Wh-what?" he asked.
"I don't know why everyone is so afraid of him," I said, walking to the kitchen. I pulled a vase from the cupboard and brought it To the sink to fill with water. "He's actually very sweet."
"There's something I need to tell you," England said.
"Yes?"
"I lost the war against France today," he answered. "That bloody perverted frog..."
"Oh, but wasn't it just over a bit of land?" I asked. "Surely it can't be so bad, you said so yourself."
"That piece of land was you," big brother answered.
I heard the sound of glass shattering before I realized that I had dropped the vase. Suddenly, France saying, "I wonder how Britain would feel if I slept with you," came back to my mind and I put my hands over my face.
"God, I don't have to live with him, do I?" I cried.
"He's coming in the morning," England said quietly. "You should start packing."
He left the room, leaving me to stare at the broken shards of glass in the sink.
