Azura's POV
The events of the previous night had induced me into a peaceful and deep sleep. My head was resting on Neteyam's chest when a slight jolt awakened me from my rest. "Azura, wake up" he whispered into my ear. Ignoring his insistence, I curled closer to his chest and tried to get back to sleep. "Come on lor syulang, we have to leave" he said with desperation in his voice.
Rubbing my eyes, I slowly opened them and lifted my head from his chest. "What happened?" I asked, still half asleep. "Let's go", Netayam sharply sat up, pulling my body while analysing his surroundings. "Neteyam. Why are you so desperate? We have all day to return home" I tried to calm him down, his tense behaviour was confusing me and I wanted to know what was causing it. Nonetheless, Neteyam ignored me and continued to look around.
"Net-", before I could say anything, he placed his hand on my mouth and shushed me, "Listen". The roar of a helicopter's propellers filled the silence of the forest as it became louder over time. Realising what was happening, I finally understood Neteyam's concerns. "Sky people" I said looking up at the sky to observe the large metal machine that caused the leaves on the trees to move violently. Turning to face Neteyam I saw how he stared worriedly at me, "Where do we go?" he asked.
Deep in thought, I remembered a place where I used to hide from my mother when we played hide and seek. "Follow me", we stood up and began walking towards the edge of the waterfall. Taking Neteyam's hand in mine, I pulled him towards the back of the waterfall, where a small cave was hidden. It was the perfect place to hide from the humans. The water would hide us from their sight, while the sound of it colliding with the lake would allow us to not be heard.
What were they doing so close to my clan's territories? I wondered. If they had come this far, it won't be long before they find the Kelutral. The thought of my people being in danger made a shiver run down my back. I needed to get out of here as fast as I could to warn them. If something happened and it wasn't there to protect them, I would never forgive myself.
Once inside, we heard people coming close to where we had been lying not long ago. Suddenly, the voices of the humans filled my ears. "They've been here, Colonel" one of them said out loud. Through the water, we could see the figures of four avatars inspecting the area, searching for any sign that could lead them towards us. Their alien bodies were easily recognisable by their human clothes as they carried assault rifles with them.
Looking at Neteyam, I began to whisper so we wouldn't be heard. "How do they know we have been here?". "They must have been tracking us" he replied while he thoroughly watched every movement of the sky people. "We have to get out of here soon Neteyam. We can't let them reach the Kelutral. If they do, they won't hesitate to hurt your family or my people. I will not allow that".
Sensing my concern, Neteyam reached out for my arms and began to caress them slowly. "We won't let that happen. I promise that as long as I am here, nothing will harm your people". His words calmed me down, but I couldn't stop thinking about how dangerous these humans were. They had already hurt my people once, if it happened again I wasn't sure that they would recover from it.
"Sully!" we both heard a deep voice shout. "I know you are here. Come out of your hiding place and let's talk man to man". Seeing that Neteyam didn't play along, the man decided to push him further. "Or would you rather I talk with your youngest sister?" he asked teasingly to irritate the male beside me. It seemed it had worked since Neteyam's face changed completely into an angry expression.
"Stupid Quaritch" he mumbled disgusted. "Doesn't matter what you hear, don't you dare move from here". Netetam moved away from me to get out of the cave, but before that could happen, I held his arm to stop him. "There are four armed avatars out there and you are just one. Besides, you are armless. If you go out, they will kill you" I told him trying to knock some sense into him.
