We had beautiful moments in this room. He sang me a song.

“Do you still play?” I sit next to him.

“That night was the last time I played.” I nod and we sit silent.

After a while, he breaks the silence, “I’m sorry for what I did back there.” I look at him to find him already looking at me. “I know that’s not how you wanted it to come out.”

“Then why did you do it?”

“I can’t stand to watch you in another’s man's arms. You are close yet so far away. I hate it.” He confesses.  “Then why did you wait for five years?”

“I thought you were better off without me but having people follow you around taking pictures proved I can never let you go. I meant it when I said I love you always and forever.”

“I love you too but this…it is too much for me. You left and what did I do? Jumped into a relationship with your brother…”

“He is not my brother.” He pouts and I can’t help but smile.

“At one point you have to accept that your mum is married and you have a new family and that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing, it’s up to you to decide that. You can have a beautiful big family here.” He pulls me closer. “You are my family.”

“Kane.”

“What?”

“I need to choose me this time.” He pulls back to look at me.

“What does that mean for us?”

“I have been all over the place in the last five years. I have done things I am not proud of in the name of love and even today I am dealing with them. You and our friends have your lives figured out and I don’t know. I need to work on myself.”

“Can’t you do that with me by your side?” he rests his forehead against mine.

“Please don’t make this harder for me?” he rests his hand on the back of my neck and pulls me in for a kiss and everything feels right again, at this moment. The way my body reacts to him amazes me every time. He explores my mouth like it is for the last time and it might be. I know I am making the right decision for myself but it also feels like I am abandoning him and I’m scared that might be what he is thinking.

“Don’t leave me.” He says in a broken voice.

“Please don’t do this?” he looks deep into my soul.

“I’m sorry.” I get up and rush out of the room in tears.

When I pass the kitchen Marry and Micael are talking. “Thank you for the amazing dinner but I have to go.” I practically ran out with Marry calling out my name.

The air is chilly outside as I take out my phone to request an Uber but there’s no signal.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.” I walk around to try to get a signal.

“Ms Pierce.”

“Bloody hell Dorrian!” my heart is pounding. “Don’t sneak up on people!”
“I didn’t.” I look at him in disbelief. “You know what… just forget it.” I get back to getting a signal.

“I am here to take you wherever you want to go.” I stop.

“Then I want to go to the moon.” He is annoyed by the way he is looking at me.

“I’m not God Ms Pierce, now please get in the car and stop making stupid demands.” Talk about being grumpy.

“Jeez! I was trying to make conversation.” I push past him and get in the passenger seat.

He hops in the driver’s seat and accelerates onto the empty road.

“Where to?”

“My apartment.”
