Chapter 2: Hero of Time

"Kai! Wake up, now!" shouted Chronoa, her voice echoing through the room.

"Mmhh, 2 more minutes, please," mumbled the half-awake Kai, who was now 19 years old and still nestled in his bed.

"Hurry up! Before I get to you, you better wash your face now!" Chronoa yelled, causing the young Saiyan to stir from his slumber.

"Alright, I'm up," replied Kai as he climbed out of bed and headed to the bathroom. He splashed water on his face and began brushing his teeth while looking at his reflection.

"Another day, huh?" he thought to himself as he removed his shirt, revealing a large scar on his left abdomen. Shaking his head at the reminder of past battles, he returned to his room to grab his phone from the table.

He picked up his spectacles from the bedside and put them on before making his way to the kitchen with a sleepy expression.

Chronoa, who had finished cooking, looked up and asked, "Did you sleep late again?"

Kai simply nodded in response, clearly not wanting to discuss his sleeping habits. "I'm finishing my Repulsor Field yesterday."

Chronoa raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? How did that go? You know I’ve been eager to see your progress on that device."

"I've tinkered with it so it will push the Time Nest's electromagnetic field instead of Earth's EM field, allowing it to hover. The device is in my room. Just attach it under anything—the couch or even Toki-Toki's nest—and you can place it somewhere without exerting too much force. Amazing, right?"

Chronoa smiled, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "That sounds incredible! If it works as you say, it could really help us manage the Time Vault more efficiently."

Kai's mouth curled into a smile at his mother's praise. "Hehe, I'm an Alchemy Star; this kind of thing is my bread and butter." He yawned, the sleep deprivation catching up to him.

"Gosh, don't let it become a habit. Go finish your breakfast. I will be waiting with Toki-toki and Old Kai at the Time Nest," she sighed, her worry for her son's health evident.

"Okay, Mom. See you later," said Kai as she headed out.

"Don't forget to pack your bags and capsules," Chronoa reminded him as she closed the door behind her, making her way to the Time Vault.

How could he forget? Today was significant-he would finally be living in his own timeline after the events of Xenoverse. With a mix of excitement and apprehension about what lay ahead, Kai hurried to finish breakfast and prepare for the day

(A few months ago)

-Chasm of Time-

"Damn you! Damn you!" screamed the Demon God Demigra, his fury echoing through the Chasm of Time.

"It's over now, Demigra. You lost," said Kai, now in Super Saiyan 2, panting heavily beside Goku, who was in his Super Saiyan 3 state.

"Noooooooo!!" Demigra roared as he pulled back his right arm and rushed toward the Saiyans, surrounded by a menacing red aura.

Goku turned to Kai, who nodded in response. Taking a deep breath, Kai channeled all his remaining energy for this final attack. Two blue orbs of energy surrounded them as they began to chant Goku's signature technique.

"Ka........Me..........Ha.......Me........" They cupped their hands together, forming a massive blue orb of energy.

With sheer determination in his eyes, Kai focused solely on the Demon God. It won't end up like last time.

"HAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!" They shouted in unison, unleashing a colossal Kamehameha wave toward Demigra, who braced himself with an outstretched fist.

The two Kamehamehas combined into a massive ki wave that intercepted Demigra, whose dark aura caused several crystals in the Chasm to crack under the pressure.

"Guoooooo!!!!" screamed Demigra, intent on obliterating the two Saiyans.

The beam clashed violently with Demigra's power, both sides struggling to gain the upper hand.

"Die, maggots!!" yelled Demigra as he slowly pierced through the Kamehameha wave. Goku and Kai found it increasingly difficult to push back against the overwhelming force.

Kai gritted his teeth. "No way in hell!! Not until I put you away from my world!!!"

"I will never, ever lose to you!" Goku declared confidently.

"KAI, NOW'S THE TIME!! TOGETHER!!!" Goku yelled.

"HAAAAAA!!!!!!!" As Kai's eyes flashed from emerald to purple for a moment, both of them expelled all their energy, doubling the size of their beam. In that brief surge of power, Demigra's entire body became engulfed in the blast.

Demigra was consumed by the intensity of the attack, slowly destroying every cell in his body. He uttered his final words: "I-impossible! I am a god... I've become a god!" A small dark crystal remained after his demise.

Kai and Goku took deep breaths after the blast dissipated. Kai's hair returned to black as he closed his eyes and let out a weak smile.

"Heh, we won..." Kai murmured before fainting from exhaustion. Crystals began to fall around them as one nearly struck him.

"Watch out!" yelled Goku as he pulled Kai to safety, dodging a falling crystal just in time.

"Kieeeee!" Toki-toki emerged from a small black crystal and chirped as Goku exclaimed, "It's crumbling! Let's go!"

Goku grabbed hold of Kai and Toki-toki and teleported them out using Instant Transmission just as the Chasm of Time began to collapse around them.

-Present-

At the Time Nest, Chronoa began to watch various timelines as she heard Elder Kai say, "It's been months since the last altercation in history."

Chronoa replied, "We need to be sure. Trunks is now in pursuit of Bojack and his crew. As for Shallot, he's still recovering from his sickness."

Elder Kai sweatdropped, "It's because of your horrible cooking that he's now stuck in the toilet for hours."

"How dare you say that, old man!" Chronoa shot back, her frustration evident.

Just then, they heard footsteps approaching the gate of the Time Nest. Kai walked down the stairs with messy, pointed hair that almost resembled a sea urchin, wearing a black Time Patroller tracksuit and jeans. He carried two bags as he made his way to the table.

"Mom, I'm ready to go now," he said, taking the blue time scroll and smiling at her.

Chronoa reminded him to visit sometimes. Kai nodded and waved goodbye to them. Surrounded by a bright light, he disappeared from view.

There were actually two reasons why Kai wanted to visit his universe again. First, he sought to relax from all the time-related shenanigans. Defeating Demigra gave him an excuse to return to his world, where there were currently no threats to the timelines.

The second reason was more personal: he wanted to meet his favorite idol from his universe, Ai Hoshino.
