Chapter 27

In the bunker

Sam's POV

I'm in Ella's room, trying to get her to do her school work. Today's her first day of home schooling, and she's already tired of it.

Sam: Your grounding doesn't excuse you from school work. You have to do your school work.

Ella: But this is boring. I'm bored.

Sam: Ella, I'm trying to be patient with you, but-

Ella: I'm not trying to make you mad. I'm just bored.

Sam: What if I take you to the library? It's a different setting. You might be able to focus, there.

Ella: Dean said I couldn't leave my room.

Sam: He won't mind you being in the library for a few hours. He'll know that you're not hanging out. You're doing school work.

Ella: Can I take my blanket?

She's had her favorite blanket wrapped around her, since I woke her up. I think she's cold, but she's not gonna tell me if she is.

Sam: If it'll help you focus, yeah, you can take your blanket.

She gets her up from her bed and I take her and her school laptop to the library. I thought Dean was in here, but he's not. He might be in the kitchen or something. Ella and I sit down and I continue helping her with her school work.

Sam: You need help? You've been staring at that page for a while.

Ella: I don't understand.

Sam: What don't you understand?

Ella: Everything.

Sam: It's English, Kid.

Ella: This is confusing me. And you're supposed to be helping me.

Sam: I'll walk you through it. Ok?

She nods and I walk her through her work. She seems to understand better when somebody shows her what to do. She's a visual learner.

Sam: See? It's not hard. You just need somebody to show you how to do it.

Ella: I think I get it now.

Sam: Do you wanna try to finish this by yourself?

Ella: Yeah.

Once she's done with English, we move on to Math.

Sam: Do you wanna try this by yourself?

Ella: No. I'm hungry.

Sam: Go get a pop tart. I'll make you something bigger in a little while.

Ella: I'm not supposed to go in there.

I really didn't think she'd care this much about where we said she couldn't go. But she actually seems to care a lot. We said that she couldn't go anywhere but her room and the bathroom. She looks nervous enough, being in the library. She's definitely not comfortable to go to the kitchen.
