THERE was a distinct and incessant beeping that awoke Hayden through her drowsy stupor. Her entire body felt weighed down, rooted to the scratchy sheets beneath her and the feeling brought a furrow to her brow. This wasn't her bed. Hayden blinked slowly, her eyelids feeling heavier than usual until finally the room came into focus. As she took in the sterile walls and machinery, Hayden swallowed the scratchiness in her throat and gently prodded the sleeping woman bent across the edge of her hospital bed "Mom-- Mom."

Lorelai jolted with a gasp, her wide blue eyes looking around in alarm before her shoulders settled "Oh, kid." She got to her feet, leaning down to kiss the crown of Hayden's head as tears filled her eyes "You really scared me. When I got the call you were in an accident--"

He made his way over to the bed, pulling out a small flashlight to shine in her eyes "Follow my finger." She did so before he pocketed it "Good. Can you tell me what you remember?"

Hayden closed her eyes for a moment "Uh, I was with my sister and my best friend. We went to get ice cream..."

Hayden relaxed back into her seat, glancing out the window just as headlights blinded her and her eyes widened as she realised the car was heading right for them "Jess, look out--"

Hayden's screech was cut off as the car collided with them, hitting them side-on and the youngest Gilmore girl felt a searing pain in her leg as the car spun before her head smacked off the side, turning the world around her to black--
