BAD TIMING
THE excitement for her daughter's acceptance to the prestigious Chilton Prepratory soon fizzled to nothing when Lorelai got the enrolment fee in the mail which was due Monday morning. She paced the porch, wine in hand as Sookie watched helplessly "What do I do? What do I do? What do I do?"
"You can have anything I own." Sookie gasped "My car! Sell my car."
"Oh, sweetie, no one wants your car."
Sookie slumped in defeat "Yeah."
Lorelai sighed "There's something I haven't thought of, I know there is. There's something out there staring me right in the face. I just... I haven't seen it."
Sookie pursed her lips .You know, you might consider calling your pare—"
"No." Lorelai cut her off with a sharp look.
"But I don't think you have a—"
Lorelai's eyes narrowed "Stop."
"You can at least go and—"
"Nu-uh."
"Okay, can I say one more thing?" Sookie sighed "I think it's your only option."
Lorelai shook her head "Sookie, there are several chapters from a Stephen King novel I'd reenact before I'd resort to that option."
The St. James woman sighed but nodded "Okay, dropped. Dropped."
"Thank you."
Rory beamed as she rushed out onto the porch, her nee Chilton skirt swinging around her calves "Mom? So what do you think?"
"Wow, it makes you look smart!" Sookie enthused.
Rory chuckled "Okay, no more wine for you. Mom?"
Lorelai smiled in amusement "You look like you were swallowed by a kilt."
Rory sighed "Fine, you can hem it. A little. Only a little."
"Okay." Lorelai agreed "Or I could hem it a lot."
"No, you're not." Rory was stern "I don't want it to be too short."
Their attention turned to Hayden who came out onto the porch with wide eyes, her skirt equally as big and long "I look like I've been swallowed by a kilt."
