LORELAI'S GRADUATION DAY
...☕️...
PUSHED along by her father, Hayden stared blankly ahead at the streets of Stars Hollow as they passed by from her wheelchair, barely paying attention to her parents and Rory as they spoke. Everything sounded muffled, like she was underwater and her heart didn't feel much better-- drowning in her grief of the life she had, the dreams nought to be recognised.
"We're being followed."
Her mother's exclamation had her break out of her turmoil and Hayden frowned "By who?"
"Soviets? CIA?" Lorelai suggested "Rune?"
"Jackson's cousin?" Rory scoffed "You're paranoid."
Lorelai frowned "I'm not being paranoid."
"You are." Christopher agreed "Now, where is this great new breakfast place?"
"It's not too far." Lorelai responded.
"You've been saying that for miles." Rory grumbled.
Their mother scoffed "It has not been miles."
"My feet are sore." At Rory's words, Hayden tensed, hands furling into fists. She didn't know pain. Guilt immediately bloomed at her thoughts, it wasn't Rory's fault and she was glad her sister would never understand.
"Hey, Tonto, when did you become older than me?" Lorelai teased.
Rory rolled her eyes as they came to a stop "Just tell us what this new breakfast place is and then I'll be quiet."
"It's an amazing new mystery place that I found and that's all I'm telling ya."
"We already have an amazing breakfast place. And lunch. And dinner. And coffee." Hayden sighed, glancing back over her shoulder with a pointed raise of her eyebrow "If you and Luke would just stop fighting—"
Lorelai inhaled sharply "We're not fighting. We're just... mad at each other."
Because of me. Hayden's heart clenched and her voice was soft "He's mad enough at himself. Go easy on him."
