A few days later, Adeline was in her room getting ready. She was going to her dad's funeral today. She put on a pair of black jeans with a white button-up shirt. She grabbed her coat before walking out of her room.
Before she went downstairs, she looked towards her mom's room. She walked in and went over to her dad's old dresser. She looked on top of the dresser and picked up a shark tooth necklace.
She smiled as she looked at it. He had gotten that necklace when they went on vacation to Florida one year. That was the time that he taught her how to surf.
A stray tear felll down her cheek before she put the necklace on. She quickly wiped it away before heading downstairs.
Her mom smiled at her before pulling her daughter in for a hug. They stood like that for a few seconds before they left the house.
When they arrived, she saw all of her friends there, along with Max. She walked over to them to say 'hi'.
Dustin was the first to pull her in for a hug. She then went down the line, hugging Will, Mike, and Lucas.
When she got to Max, her bottom lip trembled slightly. Max watched her girlfriend with sad eyes before pulling her in for a hug. Adeline tightly wrapped her arms around the shorter girl as she buried her head in her shoulder, a few tears falling on Max's shirt.
Adeline sniffled before pulling away and looking at Max. Max brought her hand up to Adeline's face and wiped a few stray tears.
"Thanks for coming," Adeline said to her friends. They all smiled at her.
"We wouldn't miss it," Lucas said. Adeline smiled before turning to see Joyce talking to her mom. Adeline walked over and Joyce turned to face her.
"Hey, honey," Joyce said quietly before pulling Adeline in for a hug. "I'm so sorry."
Adeline only nodded into Joyce's shoulder. She pulled away and looked over to the gravestone. There was her dad's urn set on a table next to it, which only made her cry more.
She walked over to the table to look at the different pictures. The one that caught her eye was one of her dad sitting on a jet ski with her little ten-year-old self behind him. She noticed the necklace he was wearing before she looked down at the shark tooth.
She felt a hand on her back and turned to see Max. Max looked at Adeline's necklace and then to the picture.
"Was that his necklace?" She asks. Adeline nods her head.
"Yeah," she answers weakly. "It was one of his favorites." Adeline leans her head on Max's shoulder as they look at the pictures together, Max occasionally jokingly making fun of 'Baby Addy'.
"I know this is a really bad time to ask," Adeline started, "but I was too scared to ask sooner." Max put all of her attention on her girlfriend. "Would you want to go to the Snowball with me?"
Max smiled at her. She wanted to kiss her so bad, but she didn't know everyone there and she didn't want anyone homophobic to see them kiss. "Of course, Bird."
Adeline smiled before placing her hed back on Max's shoulder as they continued looking at the pictures.

One month later...
"Addy, hurry up!" Adeline's mom calls from downstairs. "You're gonna be late!"
"Give me a second!" Adeline calls back, fixing her collar. She wore black jeans with a red button up shirt and a black blazer. She let out a sigh before quickly fixing her hair again and leaving her room.
