Simon was no longer where he originally was, but on a boat. He was with Charlene. This time when he focused on her, she stayed where she was. He found comfort in her presence. While this may seem great, it was still just a hallucination. It wasn't like Simon acknowledged that, though. He was too caught up in the fact that she was there, (in his mind, at least). Why wouldn't she be there, though? He could hold a conversation with her, as a normal person does. However, her skin texture wasn't that of skin, it was very unnatural and a bit rough. The reason for that has an explanation; he was touching the wall. Either way, Simon was the happiest he'd been since her death. He realized that he was able to change his surroundings, but he was now back to the moment that he met Charlene for the first time. However, the words that came out of his mouth were involuntary.
Essentially, he couldn't say what he would say, simply trapped in his own mind. It wasn't as euphoric as before.
Charlene reached out to Simon, something she hadn't done before. Her touch physically shocked him, but he didn't outwardly react, even though he felt everything. Simon was starting to doubt the reality of the scenario, but it wasn't as if his own mind would want him to find out. It would be much too painful to experience the real world. That shock was only remembered, a part of his logical self trying to tell him that knowing Charlene from the beginning was only pain. A reminder that Simon had no clue what actual loss felt like. Until now, at least. Simon was already met with sadness when they had to part for only a day. However, that day was the last time that he ever saw her alive. They'd only known each other for two days, and yet Simon felt horribly protective of her. Even going to extremes because of her loss. It wasn't like Zubin actually killed her, no matter how much Simon insisted on that. A tree had fallen on her, that was the only fact. Simply frolicking in the forest at night.
Were they lovers? Yes, in fact. They'd been dating for two months, and yet Charlene had chosen Simon over Zubin. He had just looked too lovely for her to not act on the feeling, the night they met. Charlene found Simon more unique, an interesting man he was. He poured out every one of his thoughts to her. Charlene was indeed physically attracted to him too, but found him, emotionally, to be very intriguing.
Now, aside from all of this, Simon had no idea of what anyone else was thinking. He only knew two things, from his perspective, at least: Zubin murdered his only love, and that he was in desperate love with Charlene. That's what made his whole current experience so painful, how the only person he'd been in an actual romance with him had just done something that really just reminded him of the pure pain he'd just gone through. Mentally and emotionally, yes. It wasn't as if undergoing full-on electric shocks made it any better.
The setting changed once again. They were kissing. This time, it was much more euphoric and ethereal than the last event.
Was it Simon himself changing it, though?
