The euphoria really didn't last for long. He was back in a boat, but without Charlene at all. There wasn't even a way to actually control the boat, he was just stuck out at sea. It wasn't like he knew what to do, though. Simon had never actually been on a boat, which led to the question of why he was even hallucinating it in the first place. Every time he started doubting the actual reality of these events, an image of Charlene would flicker to his right, leaving him time to ponder what he'd just seen.
It wasn't as if that prevented him from knowing that she was dead. He'd just remembered every event that had happened before the hallucinations. Not only that, but it just came to him that he had actually killed someone.
Charlene was dead, and it was, to him, because of who he killed.
This only opened up more questions, but Simon was still stuck on the topic of his only love being dead.
Simon clasped his head into his hands. Everything had, in fact, gone wrong.
The only thing for him to do now was mourn the loss of someone he'd already mourned.
