Niraiya couldn't count how many times she watched the video Khadijah had taken of her and Kay's dancing. Even as she laid on her bed, watching it now, as Khadijah sat at her desk, she giggled. Watching that moment felt so extraordinary. The vibes—the tension—everything was just there. It was electrifying.

It'd been a few days since the cookout that marked the end of summer, but Niraiya felt as though it had just happened yesterday.

"You are whipped," Khadijah said, her voice cutting through Niraiya's daydream, "and honestly, bro? I think Kay is too. The last time I saw Kay dance bachata was maybe the seventh grade. He even liked my story." Khadijah mused aloud, scrolling on her phone—probably on Instagram—as she sneaked glances at Niraiya.

"Did he?" Niraiya asked, absentmindedly, clicking off of the video finally.

"Yeah, asked me to send it to him too just like you did," Khadijah smirked, watching Niraiya's face as the younger girl fought to keep the smile off her face.

"Look, I'm just happy because... " Niraiya paused, suddenly dropping her phone on her bed, "this means Kay and I are friends right? I don't have to be weird around him anymore."

"I would definitely say y'all are friends, but like—" Khadijah said, going quiet for a second, pulling up thee video on her phone, zooming in on the part where Niraiya and Kay danced back-to-chest, faces centimetres apart, "personally? I don't do that with my friends!" Khadijah laughed as Niraiya groaned.

"Whatever!" She retorted, "I danced good, though, didn't I, Jah?"

"Yeah, you did," Khadijah shook her head, moving from her desk to flop down next to Niraiya on her bed, "Kay tried to teach me that when we were younger, but I kept tripping over my feet and falling, so I swore off learning bachata." Hearing the older girl's words, Niraiya giggled.

"Can we ball up? I'm tryna eat then go sleep," Niraiya sighed, trying to get off the topic of Kay.

"Yeah, okay, let me call Dougie," Khadijah giggled as Niraiya groaned just as the younger girl's phone started ringing. Wherever Dougie was, Kay was sure to follow. Niraiya looked at her phone and her cousin's name flashed on the screen, she gave Khadijah a sheepish smile, but the older girl just nodded, stepping out, raising her phone to her ear.

"Hello?" Niraiya said, answering the FaceTime call.

"Bitch!" Her cousin, Savannah, shrieked.

"Hi Sav, where you at?" Niraiya smiled, eyeing her cousin's background, faintly making out her auntie's deck.

"I'm at Mommy's house, Lina's here too, we all here actually," Sav giggled, probably faded than a hoe, "I been hearing some things though. How's New York? Why are Kay Flock and Dougie B in your comments?"
