"No! I just almost lost you! I couldn't have lost them!" Kyungmi screamed at Jinki as he told her the news. He walked over to her(he was released to walk) and put his arms around her.
"I know, darling. It's going to be okay." He tried to comfort her but she just pulled away and said quietly,"I can't believe this.. It's a lie isn't it?"
2 hours earlier
Kyungmi sat at her desk at Jinki's office. Her fingers sped across the keyboard as she wrote out the new plan for that year.
Jinki slowly walked over to her with a folder in his hand. He handed it to her and said,"This was sent over from my father. He said he wanted it included this near with the new production."
Kyungmi flipped through the pages and saw sketches of a blue car. She nodded at the drawings,"These are nice. I'll get them sent over to the engineering group immediately." She set them on her desk and went back to her computer.
Jinki bent down and got near her face,"Don't be too stressed out. This doesn't need to be finished today."
She looked up at him with a smile and pecked his lips,"Thanks, boss." He chuckled, then turned to walk back into his office.
Joomi(Kyungmi's mother) stared out the dark window with a sigh. She looked over at her husband, Sooho, and said,"I heard on the news someone had escaped from prison today."
He glanced over at her and asked,"What was he in for?" She turned on the heat and said,"Murder, I think."
He grunted,"Should've killed the little bastard." Joomi slapped his shoulder,"How many times, Sooho? Watch your language."
He sighed and turned the air down,"Have you talked to Kyungmi recently? Asked her how Jinki and Jonghyun are?"
She pulled out her phone and said,"No, actually.. I'll call her now."
The call with Kyungmi was short, because the girl was fixing dinner for Jinki and Jonghyun.
Joomi let out a scream when someone knocked on her window at a stop light. The man had a gun point at both her and Sooho. He motioned for them to get out, Sooho grabbed her hand and tried to gas it, but the car slid off the road after a bang. It was too late.
Kyungmi lay on the couch reading a book when Jinki walked in with a phone in his hand. He looked at her with tears in his eyes. "I just got a call from a hospital in Busan.."
Kyungmi was already starting to cry, because she knew it was something to do with her parents. They had lived in Busan their whole life.
She sat up as he continued,"It's your parents.. Something happened.. They still aren't exactly sure what."
Kyungmi's lip trembled,"No... No I won't believe it." He sat down next to her and put an arm around her.
"Someone found their bodies laying on the road. The police said there were signs of a wreck, but the car was no where to be found." She started to shake rapidly and he held her tighter.
"Also, both of them had gunshot wounds." She threw her head up,"They were killed?! By...a person?" She stood up, her face getting red,"I'm going to find him. He'll pay."
Jinki pulled her back down,"Now hang on for a second, Spiderman. The police know the license plate code. They'll be able to find him. He will most likely pay with his life. But that's the judge's decision."
She stood up, pushing him away. "No. It isn't true. In a few moments I'm going to wake up. This will all just be a bad nightmare."
Jinki watched her with a sad and worried expression as she stumbled back into her bedroom.
The next morning Kyungmi was singing in her shower and looked extremely happy while making breakfast. Jonghyun sat at the table looking at her. He licked his lips before saying,"Kyungmi, are you alright?"
She turned to look at him with a bright smile. "Of course I am. It's such a beautiful day today."
Jinki and him exchanged a look. Jonghyun leaned him and said,"You know, the five stages of loss and grief.. The first is denial."
Jinki nodded thoughtfully,"Oh.. So she's trying to pretend nothing is wrong.."
This went on for two days. Normally, her parents would have be buried three days after they were killed, but since they were being cremated, the funeral would be when Kyungmi called at told them to do it.
Since she was in this bad state, Jinki wondered if the funeral would ever happen. Of course if she waited too long then they would end up storing the ash away.
Jonghyun sat on the couch of Jinki's office. He looked towards the door and thought of Kyungmi out there working her butt off.
He turned his head to Jinki and asked,"Do you think she's already gone through the anger stage?"
Jinki looked up from his computer and shook his head,"I don't know.. Maybe.. Remember when I first told her.. She was furious..."
Jonghyun nodded,"Mm.. But usually anger comes after denial." The older shrugged with a sigh,"Well she isn't an ordinary person. Who knows what's going through her head right now."
Five more days had passed, and it seemed as if Kyungmi had skipped the bargaining stage and went straight on to the depression stage. Her depression wasn't like the kind that most people think of. You know, being all sad and regretful all the time.
Her depression, was just quiet and soft. She hardly ever spoke, and when she did it wasn't much at all. Every now and then, Jinki would wake up in the middle of the night to her soft sobs. He would watch her for a moment, seeing her back quiver as her cries were muffled under the blanket.
Jinki knew it wouldn't be easy for her to face up to it, but he also knew the next stage was acceptance. And when she accepted, he would be right there with her.
