Logan's POV

I come in front of a fire station. I'm all stressed out. Today is my first day as a candidate for fire station 51. I know the reputation of this barracks very well. But I'm still stressed out, I'm going to go to this firehouse and be with people I don't even know when they're all family. If I had to be honest with myself, it's not being with strangers that scares me, but it's more about being excluded from their family, or abandoning me once I'm part of their family. All this is because of my history from my earliest childhood. When I was born everything was going well, until I was 11. A tragic event happened. The death of a family member. The death of my brother. My brother was only five years old at that time. We were always together, we were inseparable. But when he died, my parents blamed me. I could very well ignore them because I knew very well that it was not mine. He had died after a fall of several metres. But when I turned 15, they moved without me. One night I came home from school and my house was on fire. There were firefighters on the scene. At that moment, I got scared and left. I don't know if it was bad luck or not, but one of my neighbors saw me and told the fire department. I don't know if they thought it was me that started that fire or not, but they started chasing me. When I realized it was either getting arrested or going into the burning house, I ran into the burning house. Everyone started screaming and telling me to stop. But I kept going, until I was in the house. My main mission was to escape, but I also wanted to get some things back. I was so focused in my mission that I had forgotten the house that was burning with me inside, everyone, ... Once I got all my stuff back, I left the house. For a while, I always hoped that one day, my parents would find me. Unfortunately, that day never came, I lived on the streets, did odd jobs... everything I could do to survive. The only thing I didn't notice was that Station 51 responded to that fire. Because of all this, I have been afraid all my life to be abandoned or rejected.

Once I felt ready, I entered the station. I see a large table with 4 people sitting at it. A man with blue eyes walks towards me.

? Can I help you?

L: Yes, I'm looking for the Chief, Chief Boden.

? Follow me. Sorry, I'm Lieutenant Kelly Severide. How about you?

L: Logan Diaz, the new candidate on the 81 scale.

We arrive at a door.

S: He's right behind that door.

L: Thank you, Lieutenant.

I knock on the door and I hear someone say come in. I open the door and when I come back, I see a man of color who has a posture that shows authority.

CB: Ah, hello, you must be Logan Diaz, I presume.

L: Yes.

CB: All right, here are some forms you'll have to give me back by the end of the shift and your uniform.

L: Thank you

CB: Follow me

We go out of his office and into a room. There are a lot of men and women there. Most are sitting, but a few people are standing.

CB: Hello everyone, today we have a new candidate. I'll let you introduce yourself.

L: Hi, my name is Logan Diaz, I've always lived here in Chicago. I think that's about it.

CB: Okay, thank you. You're excused. Dawson and Brett, please come over here.

Two women are coming.

CB: You can show him around, and his locker?

Both women agree.

? I'm Gabriella Dawson, but everyone calls me Gabby or Dawson. I'm in the ambulance.

? And I'm Sylvie Brett. I'm also in the ambulance.

L: Nice to meet you.

The two women give me a tour. When you get to the lockers, I put my bag in my locker. And

when we went to the common room, a call sounded.

Ambulance 61, Person in Distress

So I go to the common room by myself. Everybody goes to me.

? Lieutenant Matthew Casey, I'm on the 81 scale. And this is Otis, Mouch, and Hermann.

L: Nice to meet you.

I think they must have seen I was a little stressed out as they started discussing everything and

anything. Soon after, the ambulance returns.

D: Come with us.

I'm going with them.

B: Have you ever met Rescue 3?

L: Only Lieutenant Severide.

B: Come on, let's introduce you.

D: Boys, introduce yourself.

? I am Cruz.

? I'm Capp and he's Tony.

L: Nice to meet you.

A few hours later, it's already dark, so everyone goes to bed. The night goes quietly, without any call. When I wake up in the morning, I see that the guard ends in less than 10 minutes, so I start to remake my bed and then I go to eat an apple that is in the kitchen. A few minutes later, the bell rings to announce that the guard is over. As I was getting ready to go out, Hermann approached me.

H: If you want, we have a bar with Otis and Dawson called Molly's. All of Station 51, District 21, and Chicago Med often come to drink there. If you want, you can come tonight.

L: I'm sorry, Hermann, but I can't. Have a good evening.

Then I go on foot. I don't have a car. Five minutes later I arrive at my home. I live in a small apartment. There is only the kitchen, a living room that serves as a bedroom and a bathroom with toilet. It's not very big, but it's much better than living on the street. Before I take a nap, I realize how lucky I was that they accepted me so easily. I don't mean that, but they know almost nothing about me other than who I am. I feel bad that I declined Hermann's invitation. It's not that I don't want to, but that I don't have enough money. And on his thoughts, I fall asleep.

Meanwhile, at Molly's...

Hermann's POV

Ever since I heard the name of the new intern, I feel like I know her. I can't say how or where, but I feel like I've seen it before. I see Mouch. Since we have spent the majority of our careers as firefighters together, I will ask him for his views.

H: Hey, Mouch, come here, please.

M: What's going on, Hermann?

H: Don't you feel like you've seen Diaz before? Since her arrival, I feel like I've seen her before, and as we've spent a lot of our careers together, I thought you might know something...

M: You know, Hermann, I've known a lot of people, so I don't remember everyone. Anyway, she doesn't tell me anything. We may have met with her in a recent intervention. It is impossible to know her when she was a firefighter. She's very young, and we know almost every firefighter in Chicago. If you know her from somewhere, it must be an accident. If not, ask Boden.

H: Thank you Mouch.

Mouch's leaving, and the party's almost over.

I still think it's weird, I should look into Diaz.
