Clark decided to come back in the evening. He did have a job afterall. He wanted to see how Bruce was holding up. He would check on him from time to time. He also heard Bruce, when he temporarily was back to normal. He wasn't sure whether to go or not. He already felt he was neglectful, but Alfred didn't want him around. He just listened to make sure Bruce got the support he needed.
When he arrived at the manor, Bruce was in his bedroom on the floor. He was playing with a toy car. He was wearing pajamas.
Clark flew in through the window with his normal clothes on. Flannel and jeans. He greeted, "Hi, Bruce."
"Clark!" Bruce replied excitedly. He stood up from the floor and ran over to him. He wrapped arms around Clark. "I'm glad you're back!"
"How are you doing?" Clark asked. "Are you being good?"
Bruce nodded. "I've been really good." He didn't let go of Clark. He laid his head on his shoulder. "I'm so happy you came back."
Clark patted his back and said, "I couldn't just leave you alone."
Finally, Bruce let go of him.
"What are you doing?" Clark asked as he pointed at the car on the floor. He knew what Bruce was doing, but he was asking anyway.
Bruce went to the car and sat down. "I'm playing cars."
Clark sat on the floor in front of him. He smiled. "Are you having fun?"
Bruce nodded, "Uh-huh." He picked up the car and began rolling it in place.
Clark sighed as he watched him. He was worried about Bruce. He wasn't sure how to go about all this. He was even afraid to ask Bruce about what happened to him. He didn't want Bruce to panic or anything worse.
With his strong hearing, Clark heard Alfred let Commissioner Gordon in. Gordon was hoping to at least get something out of Bruce, but even he was cautious as much as Alfred.
Eventually, both of them arrived at the bedroom.
"Hi!" Bruce said to them.
"Hi. Oh, Super- Clark," Gordon stumbled.
"You can just call me Clark."
"Right," Gordon said awkwardly. "I didn't know you were here."
Alfred said with a tone dripped in acid, "Neither did I."
"I was just visiting," Clark replied with a smile.
"Yeah!" Bruce said piping up. "We were playing cars."
Gordon walked up to them and kneeled down. He asked, "Can I ask you a few questions?"
Bruce nodded. He could sense the seriousness of Gordon being there.
Gordon explained, "I want to ask you questions about what led you to the hospital. Okay?"
Once again, Bruce nodded.
"Okay," Gordon cleared his throat. He was nervous.
Alfred stayed at the doorway just as anxious.
Bruce glanced over at Clark, then back to Gordon.
Gordon started with, "Do you know who hurt you?"
"Not all of them."
All of them? Clark perked up at the statement.
Gordon asked, "Who did you know?"
"Joker and..." Bruce furrowed his eyebrows as he thought for a bit. "A doll head with a Scarecrow bag on it. It had some red stuff on it." He seemed unsure of his answer.
