The team of eleven from Ademola Junaid's Montessori jog on a spot while coach Donald addresses them.
"So guy, you all are going there to make me proud. You're playing as a team and you're bringing back the cup. Here's a strength for you; this team has been in the company for five years and they have never received any medal. So go there like it's a final rehearsal and trash them. Understood?" He says putting on a smile looking at the girls one after the other.
"So as an encouragement, I promise you all gifts if you come back from this match the winner. I'm serious and keep it in mind that 1 goal to 0 is nothing. We're after points. At least clinch there this evening. Taken?"
"Taken." The girls chorus while some nod in response.
"So that's it. I can't pass this place guys. Best of luck. Go there and make coach proud." He says and jogs back to the bleachers filled to the brim with spectators ready for the right dose of excitement and competition.
"Good evening great citizen of this beautiful state." A tall lanky and ebony complexioned man starts holding on to the glass made pulpit placed on the raised part of the stadium reserved for dignitaries.
"I know that it is with great joy that we are here to witness another round of fair competition today and I know that we all are as prepared as the players if not more to cheer them to victory. After the match yesterday, I found myself thinking and thinking a million times because I didn't expect that turn out. It was so surprising. Right from the beginning of the match, I already concluded that the team with the red jersey was going to win until it was half time and the other team refused to let the ball leave their custody. It was really the definition of keeping on. God bless those girls for us in Jesus mighty name!" He prays as echoes and shouts of 'AMEN!' rent the air.
"Unfortunately, His Excellency won't be here with us to witness today's match due to a previously scheduled meeting with dignitaries from other states. He sends his apologies and greetings to the teams playing today. He said to tell you that you shouldn't stop going after the ball until that man in black," he points to the referee standing at the edge of the fields, "blows the whistle. With that being said, I hereby declare today's match open in the name of the Father, son and Holy Spirit!"
"AMEN!"
"There shall be no casualties in Jesus name!"
"AMEN!"
"That's it family. Let's have the State's anthem as the players from Diamond Castle Academy and Adenoids Junaid's Montessori come in to exercise the sporting spirit im full force.
Almost immediately, the state anthem plays out as the players file in one after the other with the girls from Diamond Castle Academy dressed in army green jersey top and white striped green knickers on black football boots and black socks closely followed by the girls from Ademola Junaid's Montessori dressed in Sea blue jersey and walnut black knickers with blue socks and black football boots. The goal keepers are dressed in white jersey top, green knickers, black football boots on black socks and walnut black jersey top and knickers with black socks and white football boots respectively. The officials leave their seats and go to shake their hands one after the other as they genuflect before the officials return to their seats. They take formation on the field after shaking one another while the referee from earlier places the ball at the center of the field and blows the whistle immediately the timing for the match session starts.Who still feels like something might still happen? They have four matches remember? And this is just the first. I really do hope that coach Donald's trouble don't go in vain. Keep your fingers crossed for the girls fam, they must win this at least with three points. Oya na, how do you feel when you're trying out something new and you're opposing someone you feel like is the boss of it??? That's exactly what the girls are feeling. The first time I participated in a competition and I was given an impromptu speech, it really wasn't easy. It was my first time and others were so versed in it. I was the youngest too, but God actually intervened and out of about 10 of us, I took 3rd position. I was shocked and that's the exact feeling we might of might not be getting in the next chapter. Stay tuned 😁😁.
