Lilith surprises Amity on her birthday. Amity doesn't know how to react.

                  ————————

When Amity walked out the doors to hexside, she looked around, trying to spot her mentor. She eventually found her in the crowd of students.

Lilith noticed Amity looking sullen when she approached her. She took out her staff, setting it out so the both of them could get on.

Amity's scroll rang when they got on. Lilith noticed fear glittering in the girls eyes. Amity hit ignore and put the scroll away. She grabbed onto Lilith's waist for balance when she was ready to fly.

"Who was that, Amity?" She asked, kicking the staff up off the ground. She felt Amity's grip tighten.

"J-just my mom..." she mumbled, almost nuzzling her face into Liliths back.

"Would you like to talk about it when we get to the house? It might feel better to get it off your chest, " Lilith offered.

"Yeah, let's talk when we get there..." she decided.

Things were pretty awkward on the fly home. No one said anything. All they could hear was the wind rushing past them.

They arrived at the house, and Amity was a little shaky. Lilith knew this, too. The two witches sat down on the navy blue couch. Amity was tense but relaxed a bit when Lilith held her hand for support.

"Would you like to tell me about what happened?" She spoke in a soft, caring voice, like she actually cared.

"W-well, my birthday is tomorrow, and my mom has been nagging me. She doesn't really celebrate my birthday, she only throws a party full of suitors and snobby adults... all of the suitors are boys, and it's never fun for me. She makes me wear scratchy dresses and follow all these rules so I don't embarrass her, " she told her concerned mentor.

Lilith already didn't like Odalia. She neglected Amity and favored the twins. It reminded her of her relationship with her own mother.

"I'm so sorry, Amity... that must make you feel terrible. You should be allowed to do whatever you want on your special day. How about you stay over at my place after the party. We have a lesson right after school, and i can set up the spare bedroom," She gently ran her hands through the 13, soon to be 14, year old's hair.

Amity looked up at Lilith, a smile forming on her lips.
"That would be nice,"

Lilith gave her one last hug before she got up to start their lesson. She would have time to make a birthday plan for Amity later. Right now, they had to worry about the mid-year exams.

                  ————————

Lilith had the perfect plan. She would make Amity think that today was a normal lesson day, but she would actually take Amity out to do things she wanted. Lilith had already contacted Odalia, making up a lie, saying, "Amity is getting a great opportunity to perform her skills in front of the emperors coven. She will need to stay and sleep over after school." Odalia, being none the wiser, signed away on this immediately. However, she made sure to tell Odalia just before Amtiy was to get out of school.

After the call had ended, the bell screamed just on time, and kids started pouring out of the school. She spotted Amity, and a smile formed on her face.

"Good afternoon, dear. Are you ready to start today's lesson?"

Amity nodded and hopped on the staff.

When they approached the house, Amity's eyes grew wide. Outside in the lawn, a big tree was covered in little decorations all over its branches. There were little lights on them, too. But what shocked her the most was the blanket spread out under the tree. It had a picnic basket on it, and there were 3 bags, all birthday themed.

They landed, and Amity's jaw was dropped. She was standing frozen.

"Happy birthday, sweetie," Lilith hugged the girl from behind, but Amity was still frozen and in shock.

"Th-this is for me?" She asked.

"Of course, dear," Lilith smiled.

However, she did not expect the reaction Amity gave. The newly 14 year old, burst into tears.

"What's the matter, is it ok?" Lilith asked concernly.

"N-no, it's great, it's perfect. I l-love it. I never had someone do this for me... I don't deserve all this, " she cried

Lilith held the girl tightly to her chest, brushing her hand through her hair.

"You deserve this more than anything, dearest."

"Th-thank you, thank you so much," she buried her head into Liliths chest, trying to shield her tears.

"You're welcome, dear. You can let it all out, I won't judge," With that, Amity let her tears fall. She was a little guilty that she was staining Lilith's dress with her tears and snot, but her mentor seemed fine with it.

Once Amity's tears had slowed down, Lilith cupped her cheeks and dried away the rest.

"How about we sit down and have lunner (lunch and dinner). Afterward, we can go into town and do whatever you want." She assured her, moving the two down to the picnic blanket. Lilith sat next to her and watched as Amity opened her presents with a wide toothy smile. Amity was smiling so much that Lilith had noticed Amity's adult fangs coming in. She could tell how much Amity enjoyed this. She was flapping her hands and bouncing up and down.

They spent the rest of the day at the amusement park, having fun. Amity felt so carefree. They had a grand time on the rides, and bumper carcasses. At the end of the day, Lilith tucked Amity into bed but when she tried to leave the room, Amity grabbed her arm.

"Lilith, thank you. This has been the best day of my life so far. I forgot what it was like to be this happy." She thanked the navy haired women.

Lilith sat down on Amity's bed and held the girls hand.

"Sweetie, you don't need to thank me, I loved seeing you happy today. It made me feel great just seeing you have a fun and joyous birthday." She got up to leave the room. "Goodnight, don't let the night critters bite"

Amity slept peacefully the whole night, never disrupted by the stressful thoughts of her mother. Just happy thoughts about her found family.
