𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟔𝐭𝐡, 1981 --- Three hours before the incident.
Angel found herself smiling at the sight of wilted ring of baby's breath that she'd weaved for Eddie a few nights ago. Smiling was an understatement, she practically beamed as bright as the sun when she'd realized he'd hadn't taken it off when she'd seen him a few moments ago.
She could still feel that warmth on her cheek, where he gave her a good luck peck, for the final fall basketball game.
Jesus, don't be creepy now, she'd think.
As if a cat's claws had punctured her joyful, airy mood, the annoying clicking of her mother's heels could be heard parading the large halls surrounding the gymnasium.
"The best of luck, my dear." She spoke with that malicious tone. The one Angel could only pick up on.
"Thanks."
In response to the silence that followed, Blanche Harrington just tapped the tip of her heel, impatiently. "You have nothing to say?"
"You confuse me. What would you like me to say, Miss Harrington?"
A bone twitched in Blanche's jaw. "I assume he's also taught you to speak to me that way, along with everything else."
"I have the faintest clue of what you speak of, mother." She was pushing the limits, imitating her mother's demeanor, but it felt so good. Freeing.
"We will have a conversation after this game," She smiled, wickedly, "and you will regret speaking to me that way. Betraying me for some trailer scum, Angel."
The feeling she got from acting out this way was also dangerous, and Angelica realized that too little too late.
