                                       ⊱ ────── {⋅. ✯ .⋅} ────── ⊰

Angel's oar never stopped rowing, even as she whipped her head around to watch the two high school boys, who now stood at the shore. Breathless. Even an attempt at gulping was too difficult, considering her throat and lungs were clawing for more air every second.

They were a good distance from the shoreline, but halfway across the entire lake wouldn't have been safe enough for her, not when she beheld the suits they wore and the crowbars that were gripped tightly in their hands.

"Jesus, row!" The teen girl mustered that kernel of strength left and dug her oar into the felt like the depths of the dark waters.

Eddie only panted, shaking his head in exhaustion. "I'm flattered you take me for some kind of jacked basketball player, angel."

"That's not necessarily funny, considering we're being chased by a whole lot of them."

Without another word, the older boy abandoned his oar at the bottom of the boat to stagger towards the engine. Angelica didn't need to turn from her rowing to realize that the sputtering was result of the failed ignition. She tried to stifle her gasp when she also heard splashing in the distance, near the shore. Even as the sounds drew closer along the lake, she didn't stop.

Eddie had given up the engine-igniting idea and slumped back down to row, shouting a string of panicked profanities that had Angel wincing every other second. "Goddamn it!"

In a matter of moments, Jason and Patrick were right behind the boat. But something was off, enough so that it made Angelica turn her head in concern. The only one splashing through the lake was Jason now.

Eddie grabbed the oar and swung it, "Hey! Stay back! Stay back!"

"Hey, come one, lets go! We almost had them!" Angel heard Jason yell, muffled by the rippling waves of the water. She was almost grateful for her dirty jeans and un-styled, flat hair, otherwise he might've recognized her-- even in the dark. "Hey, Patrick!"

"Patrick!"

He was not responding. And Angelica got a good enough glance to know he was practically staring off into space. "Patrick!"

Before anyone could register what had happened, the dazed basketball player had went under the dark lake. Gone. That's when she stopped rowing. That's when she dropped her oar and gripped the edge of the boat, trying to sift through those murky waters for any kind of figure or silhouette.

"Patrick?" Jason's focus had shifted, entirely. "Hey? Patrick?"

Angelica jumped five feet out of her skin when Patrick had emerged from the waters. Emerged was an understatement-- he had practically flew up from the rippling lake. The teen girl didn't have time to hold on-- not as Eddie tipped the entire boat from the pure terror that the sight had caused him. One moment she was staring at Patrick's lifted body, and seconds later, all she could see was the moonlight shining through from the surface of the water. Everything else was one big, dark, blur.

An arm had clasped around her waist, immediately pulling her back through.

Short chapter, I know, but I hoped you all enjoyed nonetheless <3 (excuse any mistakes, didn't proof read just yet).
