⊱ ────── {⋅. ✯ .⋅} ────── ⊰

The shadowed forest seemed to stretch for ages as Angel's gaze sifted through the distance. It would be a lie to say the dark woods weren't an oddly pretty sight-- despite it's creator.

Angelica had originally stuck next to Robin after the painfully embarrassing moment minutes before. Yet, her pace had slowed to walk alongside her brother and Eddie, who were engrossed in some sort of conversation-- it didn't take her long to realize was about Nancy.

With his gaze ahead, Eddie continued after acknowledging her sudden presence with a quick brush of his thumb against hers, "Takes balls of steel to jump in first in that scary ass lake."

Angel silently listened, even with her objections to Nancy and where exactly her loyalties lie. She couldn't deny the flicker of panic and determination she saw in her when Steve hadn't resurfaced.

"Yeah, but, Nancy's just like that... she... that's just her character." Steve shook his head, but his expression seemed to betray his previous statement. Angelica could see his swell of realization.

"Even so... she jumped in before your sister, man." Eddie quietly chuckled and playfully pinched the girl's side. "That's gotta be something."

Angel swatted at his hand and scoffed, "I would have jumped if Nancy's big, self-righteous ass hadn't gotten in my way."

The boy threw his head back with a cackle as Steve only shot the girl an annoyed, but slightly amused glare. That was most definitely a lie, especially with her little to nonexistent swimming skills, but Angelica just smiled along anyways.

"Nah, but seriously." Eddie heaved a sigh, marking the end of his fit of laughter, "I certainly wouldn't have jumped in after you... envious or not."

The girl quirked a brow at his hint at whatever they were talking about earlier, but didn't pry.

In the distance, a herd of other-worldly creatures screeched, causing the trio of teens to flinch. The teen girl clutched the worn, denim jacket closer, earning a discreet glance from the owner of it next to her. The choir of beasts faded away, and tension along everyone's shoulders seemed to fade with it.

"Yeah, I'm not exactly the hero type." He scratched at the nape of his neck, awkwardly, "As soon as I see danger, I just run." Despite the laughing-it-off tone, Angel could see the swirl of contrite in his irises. She wished he knew how many times he'd saved her. With that, the girl linked her bare arm with his leather-clad one.

"Don't beat yourself up." She gave him a comforting squeeze, ignoring the raised brow Steve seemed to be sending her way. Eddie pulled his arm away-- suddenly leaving the girl feeling sad, and silly for thinking a little embrace was going to fix everything, even as she knew what it meant to run in the face of danger. Patrick's lifeless face still braced her mind, in a painfully vivid memory. And they had ran. But in a heartbeat, he draped his arm around Angelica's side, and pulled her even closer.

He sighed, "I wouldn't usually, but the only reason I even jumped in in the first place was because of you ladies. They didn't waste a second, especially Wheeler up there. I didn't wanna be the loser who stayed behind." He offered her a smile that was nothing short of pride.

"Yeah, I guess we were pretty badass." She chewed on her bottom lip, eyes suddenly focused on the the young woman walking ahead.

Eddie's attention then turned to Steve, and seemed to shift to a whisper, "Not sure what happened between you two, and frankly, I don't care but if I were you, I'd do whatever to get that back."

Angelica heavily debated butting in and objecting-- especially since Eddie's attempt at whispering was pretty pathetic. But, he could be right, and who was she to stand in the way of her brother's potential happiness? Even if the same woman had already crushed it a few years ago. And even if that same woman was already in a long distance relationship with Jonathan Byers. Angelica seemed to be warming up to the idea of Nancy and Steve, but not at the expense of someone else's heartbreak.

"That's a clear sign of love if I ever saw it." Was the last thing Eddie said before the world around them fell to chaos once again.

The ground beneath her clattered, causing her to jerk her hand out for any potential stabilization from a nearby tree. Thankfully, Eddie's grip was so death-like, a wind storm could rip through them and they still would've been hunkered down. His arm swiftly wrapped around hers as another wave of pure turmoil rippled through the world.

Robin's voice boomed from ahead as Nancy ran to what looked like the end of the expanse. Once the everything stilled, the four of the teens raced to where she stood.

Red, angry lightning illuminated the dark hunk of wood, windows and twisted hive-vines that meant to replicate the Wheeler's residence.
