The Aftermath

One week. One whole week since she'd been gone. It felt like forever to the Cipher family. Isabelle hadn't left her house in at least three days, and Jasmine had taken her family vanished to Axolotl-knows-where.

Zace seemed completely shatter, the normally talkative and excitable demon hardly talking or even responding to simple things. Ben did his best to keep his siblings together, calling and trying to talk to them everyday. He refused to lose any more of his family.

Layla was in complete denial of what had happened. She still responded to Ben, but nearly shut down every time Tiffany was implied or mentioned.

William seemed to practically become a part of the background. He hardly spoke or contacted any of his family members. No one seemed to know what he was doing. It was a shock to everyone who found out when he randomly sprung on them that he had been dating some guy he knew for a few years (though he didn't say who) and was moving in.

Jasmine was a bit concerned about this but insisted on refusing to talk to anyone. She was sitting in her living room when there was suddenly a knock on the door. Curious, she stood up and opened the door.

Ben stood there, looking almost the same as he did when she last saw him. "Uh... hi?" He mumbled, shifting awkwardly. "It's been a while. Sorry to drop in on you all unexpected and everything."

She blinked in shock, staying silent for a while. Eventually she spoke. "How did you find me...?" She asked quietly

"Did you forget about my telepathy? I can glance into open minds." He paused for a moment, thinking. "It sounds weirder when I say it out-loud." He admitted.

"... Fine. I guess you can come in." Jasmine walked back inside, not really waiting for Ben to follow her.

Ben stepped inside, observing the room around him. "You've got a nice place." He commented, smiling vaguely. His eves seemed mistier than usual. "I haven't heard from you in a while."

"Yea, I... I'm sorry about that. I just..." She trailed off, crossing her arms. "Why are you here? I thought that me leaving last week was a pretty clear sign I don't want to be talked to."

He sighed, wrapping a hand around his sleeve. "I know, I know, but no one has heard from you this entire time, and I was getting worried..." He trailed off. "The others are worried, too. Zace hardly reacts to anything, Layla shuts down when she as much as hears Tiffany's name, and William just up and left to some," he gestured vaguely to the side. "Boyfriend, or someone." He looked back over to her. "We need you. We need each other."

She flinched a bit. "I know. I'm sorry. It's just really hard... I need a bit of time to myself." Jasmine looked at her younger brother. "I just thought..." She trailed off.

Ben avoided her gaze. "I know you need time. We all do..." He sighed. "I... I just don't want to lose anyone else. I'm scared to lose any more of my siblings."

She was quiet for a little bit. "Yeah... I am too." She picked at her nails. "If you want, we could try to arrange a picnic with everyone or something. It could... Be fun."

He smiled a little. "Yea... Yea, that would be really fun." He thought for a moment. "I still don't know how to get to Will. His mind is blocked off, and I don't know where he is now."

She frowned, "Did he say who he was moving in with?" Her eyes seemed to flash.

She frowned, "Did he say who he was moving in with?" Her eyes seemed to flash

He shook his head. "No name. Apparently he's some boyfriend that he never told us about." He said, shrugging.

"That's... concerning." She said slowly.

He nodded. "Yea. I'm worried, too."

"I'm gonna try to find him." Jasmine stood up, then paused, "Oh! Do you mind watching my kids for a bit?"

"Oh, yea, of course." He nodded, smiling a little at that.

Jasmine smiled, "Thanks! They're upstairs." She went out the door.

He nodded and walked off, excited to see his family.

Trevor was sitting in his room with his siblings. He was laying on his bed and crying quietly.

He noticed and hesitated, not knowing if he should go over or leave him alone.

Ash heard, and looked up, "Uncle Ben?!" They asked excitedly, standing up.

He jumped a bit that that and looked over. He smiled at them. "Oh, hello there!"

Trevor looked up, wiping off his tears, "What are you doing here? Mom said that we weren't gonna see anyone for a while." He said, sitting up.

"Well, I came over to visit. Your mom left to go see someone, and she'll be back soon, I'm sure." He explained.

He stood and ran over, hugging his leg. "Mom won't answer our questions. Can you?" He asked.

"I'll try, I really will." He nodded, patting his head

"What happened to Auntie Tiff?" Ash asked, looking up from the several doodles they were making on their hand and arm. "Mom already said that she's gone, but won't tell us what that means." They continued.

"I-I..." He trailed off for a moment. "You'll know when you're older, okay? It's a more grown-up thing."

Ash frowned, crossing their arms. "It's not fair. Why do we have be treated like little kids?"

He shrugged a little. "Well... We just want to wait until you can understand like us."

"I can understand physics. How's this different?" They asked, genuinely confused. Alice was trying to grab Ash's arm to draw on it.

"Because people and physics aren't exactly the same. I would know." He smiled faintly.

They sighed a bit, "Could you please tell us?" They looked up at him.

"When you're older, I promise that I will."

"Ok..."
