Lost and Found

Chapter 6: To Be a Dragon

The air is cool against y/n's cheeks as Atlas takes her higher into the sky, following Cloudjumper and Valka. Hiccup trails behind them with Toothless. He glances over his shoulder to see the entirety of the nest following them too.

"Hey, I-I thought we were going to eat." Hiccup shouts.

Atlas and Cloudjumper move in sync as they turn around to face Toothless. Valka and y/n smirk.

"Oh, we are!" Valka calls cheerfully and holds out her hand to signal they should stop. Hiccup glances from his mother to the h/c haired girl. She gestures for him to look down. He does.

Below them, a group of Seashockers is herding a school of fish. They swim away as the bewilderbeast rises from the dark depths of the water. He scoops most of the fish up in his enormous jaws, bellowing as he breaches the water's surface. Then, tossing his head back, the bewilderbeast spits the fish out, causing it to begin literally raining fish. The dragons that followed quickly dive after the fish.

Hiccup stares in complete awe and shock as the fish fall and dragons race around. Valka and y/n laugh. Toothless watches excitedly with his tongue out. Hiccup gestures for his friend to help himself, and Toothless wastes no time diving after some falling fish. y/n laughs harder at the ridiculous sight of Hiccup hanging on for dear life.

Atlas coos, and the young girl quickly goes prone to allow her friend to dive after some fish as well. The stormcutter expertly weaves between many dragons despite her larger size. The pair pass by Toothless and Hiccup. y/n sends the boys a wave and a large smile as they race by, her laughter echoing on the wind. Hiccup watches her with a soft smile. Something about her draws him in, wanting to know more.

With a mouth full of fish, Toothless flies higher to follow after Atlas and y/n.

The small group is resting on a giant iceberg. Hiccup has his map out and points to it, showing both Valka and y/n. Y/n leans over his shoulder to get a closer look at the map. Her warm breath tickles the side of his neck, and Hiccup blushes slightly in response to their close proximity. Then, trying to refocus, he points to another part of the map. As he speaks, he doesn't notice the girls walking away with smirks and an idea flashing in their eyes.

"And from Dragon Island, I found this archipelago..." Hiccup trails off as he looks up, expecting to see his mother and y/n, but they've left. Slightly confused, he watches as they drag their weapons through the snow: Valka uses her staff, and Y/n uses her sword. Hiccup chuckles softly when he realizes they're drawing a map.

Y/n sheathes her sword as she and Valka return to Hiccup's side. "There." Valka says, and Hiccup stares in awe at the map before him. Have they really been all over?

Toothless bellows as he also draws in the snow with a giant icicle. Y/n and Valka watch on in amused confusion. Atlas and Cloudjumper watch as well. The three humans share an amused look as y/n chuckles. Toothless continues drawing around the two stormcutters. Both turn their heads to watch as he goes around.

Finishing the drawing, Toothless attempts to drop the icicle, only to get it stuck to his tongue. The night fury shakes his head, trying to remove the ice.

As the sun begins to lower, Y/n takes the group to a powerful updraft. Then, cheerfully, she races toward the edge with Atlas bounding after her. Y/n turns to wave to Hiccup and Valka as she leaps backward off the cliff. Hiccup's heart leaps to his throat as he watches her disappear over the edge.
