Chapter 10.
Luke is finally situated inside his large bedroom with a fireplace, holding his cell phone and waiting for his warm lemonade.
He now changed into his typical sleeping clothes, a white shirt and boxer shorts that he finds comfy. Lilly, their 40 yr old maid, is accustomed to seeing him with it. He was dialing Lena's number again, trying everything he could to reach her. However, the line is somewhat busy, which irritated him to the extent that he tossed his phone on the carpet, creating an echo from this four-wall bedroom.
Then a little knock may be heard on his door. "Luke, your warm lemonade is here," Lilly stated. That jolted him up, and he gently opened his bedroom door and reached for his drink.
"Thank you, Lilly; I don't know what I'd do without you," he added, smiling."Is anything wrong, Luke? I heard a light thump before I came here to knock on your bedroom door," she asked concerned.
"Oh, don't mind me, my phone fell to the ground due to my carelessness." He lied.
Lilly was attempting to peek through his bedroom door to see if there was anything wrong. "All right, if you need anything, just call me," she said before disappearing from view.Luke then sat on his sofa, sipping his warm lemonade, with plenty of things on his mind. Many questions remain unanswered for Lena. He was wondering whether he had done something wrong to her, but he couldn't think of anything.
He was deep into his thoughts when his phone rang from the floor. It immediately occurred to him that someone was attempting to contact him. He then approached the phone and noticed the name "Lena" on the dialer screen. This caused his eyes to widen and he almost spilled his warm lemonade. He picked up the phone without hesitation.
"Lena? Is this you?" he said, clutching the phone like a madman. The line was met with silence. He wondered whether someone was playing a joke on him. "Luke? It's been a while," Lena on the other line said. When he realized it was Lena, his heart began to beat faster.
"Where are you? Are you okay? Are you back? Should I come to pick you up?" Luke stammered, still feeling the pain in his chest.
"Luke, please don't make this any more difficult than it already is. I'm fine. I'm back in Brazil and just want to spend some time alone; the last time we spoke on the phone, I didn't get the chance to tell you why I left." And then there was a long pause on the other line.
"What's the matter, tell me? Did I do something wrong to you?" Luke inquired gravely.
"I'm sorry, Luke, but I don't believe our relationship will work anymore. I became aware of the idea that I am ok being alone right now. I know we've been together for the past three years, and I know you are capable of finding the girls you want."
"Lena, please stop with this crap; we can still mend problems and speak about how to make this work."
"I know it's difficult, but we must go forward and forge our own new route. I love you, Luke, but I believe this is the end of our relationship."
"Please, Lena, don't do this. "Luke pulled at his hair, teary-eyed, as the pain intensified."Sorry, Luke, but I have to go. " The phone call ended.
After then, there was silence.
