"Shinazugawa? I'm coming in."
Sanemi didn't respond and he let his friend come into his room. Feeling a familiar presence, Sanemi let out a sigh as he still kept his head on his pillow.
"... You're a total mess, aren't you?"
Iguro Obanai sat down beside Sanemi. He shook his head at how miserable his friend looked right then.
"How long are you going to continue doing this?" He asked.
"Doing what?" Sanemi mumbled against his pillow.
"Acting all depressed because you just got your heart broken."
"I fucking don't know what you're talking about."
Obanai's white snake, Kaburamaru, shook its head in dismay. Obanai petted his little friend, smiling behind the bandages on his mouth, "Even Kaburamaru agrees with me."
"Just go away..." Sanemi mumbled.
"You promised the little girl, didn't you?" Obanai reminded him, making Sanemi finally open his eyes fully.
"You promised you'll let her celebrate your birthday. Don't break a child's hope, Shinazugawa."
If Sanemi was not feeling gloomy, he would've retorted Obanai's sentence. Sanemi agreed he shouldn't make children sad.
Speaking of the little girl, Sanemi recalled the day he first met the kid. He never thought the kid that annoyed the hell out of him would become the kid he adores.

Another mission, another night, and another boring day.
Sanemi sat down on the engawa facing the courtyard in his abode. He stared at nothing, literally nothing, that's why he's feeling unbearably bored right now. Being a pillar keeps him busy at night, but dull at daytime.
Sanemi looked up at a kite that was floating in the sky. He watched how the kite was blown away here and there by the wind and landed on a tree in his very courtyard.
"Who the fuck let go of the fucking kite..." He mumbled.
He was about to take the kite out from his tree when someone knocked on his front door. The person who knocked on the door didn't stop with one or two knocks, instead they continuously knocked on the door to the point Sanemi had to yell on top of his lungs.
"I HEARD YOU! WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE AND STOP KNOCKING ON THE DAMN DOOR!"
The person stopped knocking immediately.
When Sanemi opened the door, he didn't see anyone. Did the person run away because of his words?
"I'm down here, mister!"
Sanemi looked down at the squeaky voice. There he saw a child, a little girl of familiar short messy white hair and blue eyes. She was smiling politely at Sanemi. If it wasn't for her voice, Sanemi would've thought that she was a boy.
"My kite got stuck on your tree, mister." The girl pointed to her kite, making Sanemi turn his head toward it. "Can I have it back?"
With a sigh, Sanemi answered, "Yeah, sure, I'll get-"
"Then excuse me!"
The girl ran inside Sanemi's house as soon as Sanemi spoke. Sanemi had to blink twice to realize that the girl just entered his house, uninvited.
"HEY! WHO TOLD YOU TO GO INSIDE?!"
Sanemi chased the girl into his house, only to see the girl was already climbing the tree. His already big eyes widened even more when he saw the girl was about to jump from the branch.
