A Blinded Heart

Chapter 13

Anika's P.O.V

"ANIKA!" Maia shouted in frustration, snapping her fingers in front of my face. I realized I had zoned out and had not answered her question.

"What were you doing with him?" She asked.

"He just dropped me off from the grocery," I said gesturing to the bags on the floor.

"Anika are you stupid, why would you get into a car with him," She scolded me. I started to get irritated with the way she was speaking to me.

"Maia I am a grown woman, do not speak to me like a child," I said.

"Did you forget what he did to you?" Maia continued.

"It happened to me how could I forget," I said slamming the bags down on the kitchen counter. She followed me there and continued her grilling.

"Don't tell me you are planning on forgiving him," She said shaking her head.

"So what if I am."

"Don't be fucking stupid Anika he will do it again."

"You don't know that. He apologized and I trust him."

"For fucks sake, he HIT YOU. HE PUT HIS FUCKING HANDS ON YOU," she screamed at me.

"I KNOW THAT!" I shouted. I could feel the tears threatening to fall. I was reliving the moment that I was trying so hard to forget. "I'm gonna go to bed," I said ending the conversation abruptly and going to my room.

A few minutes later Maia's bedroom door slam shut. I knew I was reckless but I believed he would never do it again. I watched several youtube videos before I fell into a deep slumber.

I woke up to heels clicking on the wood floors in front of my door and whispers. I jumped off my bed and pulled it open with swiftness. There I saw Maia pacing up and down the hall. When she saw me she stopped and stared before pulling me into a bone-crushing hug.

"Anika I'm sorry, I know you are going through a lot right now and I shouldn't have pressured you." She rushed out.

"It's fine I knew you did it because you were worried about me and I should be the one apologizing to you. I'm sorry Maia and thank you for looking out for me." I said returning her hug.

"Apology accepted, Anyways Asia and I were planning to go bowling tonight, do you wanna come?"She asked. I shook my head in confirmation.

Maia was never the girl to stay mad for too long, she always looked on the brighter side. She gave me one last hug before heading out.

When she left I was stuck with my own thoughts. I didn't know what to do with the whole Levi situation. I know for a fact that I am still deeply in love with this man and it's crazy to me because we haven't known each other for that long and he hurt me deeply but I still couldn't get him out of my head and out of my heart.

I didn't want to see the look of disappointment on Maia's face again when she thought that I was getting back with him but I was a grown woman and I was allowed to make my own decision and live by them.

My thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of my phone.

"Good morning, Anika White speaking."

"Congratulations Ms. White you have got the job," I let out a silent scream and did a little mini dance before I replied.

"I am delighted to join the company when will I start," I said composing myself.

"Are you available at twelve? We would like it if you came in today so we could give you an introduction to the company before you officially start this upcoming Monday."
