Bonnie played with the sliver wolf on her bracelet as she usually did after a nightmare; it always grounded her and helped her feel closer to Grams. At times like these, she wished that she was here to guide her. Since Bonnie came back from the prison world, the spirits tried to speak to her, and she guessed she was forgiven for everything she had done that was against them.
Tonight, she dreamed of Caroline and Elena. Caroline was on a boat sailing away with two people, leaving her behind because there wasn't any space for her. She turned to Elena to hug her, and Elena died and then disappeared right in front of her, leaving her alone as always to soothe herself. Bonnie was left there crying until she eventually drowned in her tears. Bonnie doesn't know what these dreams mean, and she prays there is no truth to them.
Just as Bonnie begins to relax about her dream, she hears a knock on her dorm door. She knows it's Damon; she wants nothing to do with him. The last time they talked, it was about Kai, the man who tormented her in the prison world before escaping and causing havoc in Mystic Falls too. She knows he's either here for Elena or her. She gets up to let Damon in, and he walks in.
"Bonnie, I know you are mad, but it's Kai; he just wants to talk to you. Give him one minute, just one, please." Damon says that looking at Bonnie with the eyes she had seen for over 2 years in the prison world, Damon was supposed to be hers, the only person to understand her isolation and the pain she went through while they were hopeless in the prison world, but he was not her best friend. Calling to her like an errand boy, begging for forgiveness for someone who didn't deserve it.
Bonnie looked at Damon and cried. She didn't understand why she always had to give and give and never be thanked, never be put first, never be comforted. How can he, a vampire, not understand that she cannot forgive Kai? She didn't care if he was a good person now. Where was that goodness when she was trapped in the prison world with him? When he chased and attacked her? When he trapped her in his trunk? When he stabbed her and leave for death? When she was in her final moments, had she given up anything that anyone would ever come for her? He put her there, hopeless and powerless. He made her lose herself for who she was, making her, for the first time in her life, want to give up and not give it her all.
Damon stood there not knowing what to do. Bonnie had become his best friend in the prison world. He wanted to be better and do right by her, but things were different. Stefan and Caroline's humanities are off, and they are being careless, and he has this plan that could work if Bonnie could just talk to Kai. It was all she needed to do, and after he promised to do right by her, to be her best friend, but she just wouldn't budge.
He didn't know how to comfort her and protect her while also getting his way. So he just hugged her and whispered, 'I'm sorry," while she cried in his hands.
Bonnie stood there in Damon's arms, knowing what she needed to do. She needed to follow her intuition and leave Mystic Falls before things took a turn for the worse for her again.
