Niklaus stalked the black-haired vampire in his wolf form, the way he moved reminded him everything of his first sire. His little witch had just been dismissive of him, Niklaus being more cautious, having no memory of the vampire ever. He didn't know all vampires, but there were always rumours of vampires with strange abilities, and he thought this was one, but the more he watched him, the more he had the mannerisms of Lucien.
It should only be a matter of time before he notices he is being followed if he hasn't already. If fate is on his side, he blends in perfectly with the other woodland creatures and the rushing river. The vampire stopped in the middle of the bayou, and Niklaus stayed far away, twitching his ears to the steps of another person coming.
Niklaus watched as a stone-faced woman approached the man. He listened as they talked.
"Took you long enough," her soft voice caused the birds to scatter from around them.
"Did you find it?" he asked, ignoring her remark. The woman sighed and shook her head.
"It was confirmed she would be in Austin, Texas but she apparently moved out of town," the woman answered.
"We need to find her; I don't need no loopholes when the spell is completed," he said roughly
"I think she might be right under your nose," the woman answered,
"She is here in the city; there are so many wolves in this city," he pondered
"Yes, the wolves are very close-knit; here they know when a member of their pack is missing; it should be easy to spot a new shifter," the woman answered. The man took something out of his pocket; it was a vial with red liquid, Niklaus assumed it was blood.
"I should not give you this, but out of this last longing partnership," he said, "I will award you for your failure." He smiled and gave it to her. The woman caught it and studied the vial.
"It should be enough; how did you get this?" she asked. Looking beyond the man in the direction of a bunny that was perfectly in the middle of where he hid, the two stood.
"I had a friend drink wolf venom." He shared from the tone Niklaus knew he was smiling, "The family felt some type of remorse and offered up the one thing that could cure it." Lucien said. Niklaus did his best not to react; that was his blood for the human to play with.
"I am grateful for your friend's sacrifice; I reckoned the potion did not work." She asked him, and he nodded.
"Healed as good as the real thing, you sure it was not magic," Lucien asked, and the woman shook her head.
"I am not, but science is the closest thing we have to magic," the woman answered. The woman hesitated before she spoke again.
"Do you know how many Bennett witches are in this city?" She asked, "Any new additions?" Niklaus immediately thought of Kamali and Lucy.
"There are three, but they are mostly kids; the oldest is with the hybrid, " he said,
"Are you sure?" she asked, puzzled.
"I saw it myself earlier today," he answered. She wanted to say more but stopped herself. Niklaus watched Lucien smile.
"Come on, after all these years working with you and your ancestors, you all still hold back," Lucien said. "We have done a lot for each other to make our goals come true; what is bothering you?" he asked.
"Someone escaped from the facility." She said, looking at him upset. "There were no signs of breach; she just vanished, and then my sister died the same day."
"You think it was a Bennett witch?" he asked. The woman swallowed and nodded.
"It was a Bennett witch that escaped; she was there one minute, and then she walked up to the wall and disappeared," she said.
