I sat on the couch with my phone in hand, scrolling through social media while my daughter, Eva, played with her dolls on the floor. It had been two weeks since her dad, Thomas, left for his tour with his band Maneskin, and Eva was starting to feel the absence of her father.

"Mama, can we facecall daddy? I miss him," Eva said, looking up at me with her big, innocent eyes.

"Of course, sweetie," I said, picking up my phone and dialing Thomas' number. After a few rings, he answered the call.

"Hey, you two," Thomas said, his face appearing on the screen. "How are my girls doing?"

"We're doing okay, but Eva misses you a lot," I said, watching as Eva scooted closer to the phone to get a better look at her dad.

"I miss her too. How about we play a game? I'll ask you some questions, and you have to answer them," Thomas suggested, a playful smile on his face.

Eva nodded eagerly, and Thomas began asking her questions about her favorite colors, animals, and toys. I watched as my daughter's face lit up with each answer, her love for her father shining through.

After a few minutes, Thomas looked at me and said, "Hey, Y/n, can I talk to you alone for a minute?"

"Sure, Eva, can you go play in your room for a little bit?" I said, gesturing toward the door.

Eva nodded and skipped off to her room, leaving me and Thomas alone on the screen.

"Hey, how are you holding up?" Thomas asked, concern etched on his face.

"I'm doing okay, but I can see how much Eva misses you. I just wish you were here," I admitted, feeling a lump form in my throat.

"I know, and I wish I was there too. But this tour is important, and I promise I'll make it up to you and Eva when I get back," Thomas said, his voice softening.

"I know you will," I said, smiling weakly. "We'll be okay. We'll just miss you a lot."

"I'll miss you both too," Thomas said, reaching toward the screen as if he could touch me. "But we'll get through this. Together."

I nodded, feeling a sense of comfort wash over me. "Together," I repeated, and we ended the call.

The next day was Eva's birthday, and I wanted to make it special for her, despite her dad not being here. I could see the sadness in her eyes, but I was determined to make her smile.

"Eva, how about we go for a walk in the park?" I suggested, hoping to distract her from her thoughts.

"Okay," Eva said, her voice sounding less enthusiastic than usual.

As we walked, I pointed out the different flowers and trees, hoping to lift her spirits. "Look, Eva, those flowers are your favorite color, pink. And those trees have the prettiest leaves, don't you think?"

Eva nodded, but I could tell her mind was still preoccupied. "Mama, do you think daddy is thinking about me today?"

"Of course he is, Eva. He loves you so much, and he would never forget your birthday," I reassured her, giving her hand a squeeze.

We continued our walk until we came across a toy store, and I knew I had to do something to make her feel special. "Eva, how about we go in there and you can pick out any toy you want?"

Eva's eyes lit up, and she eagerly ran into the store, browsing through the aisles. She finally settled on a new doll, and her smile was infectious.

"Mama, thank you so much. This is the best birthday ever," Eva said, hugging me tightly.

But I wasn't done yet. I took her to her favorite restaurant and ordered all her favorite foods and desserts. As we ate, I couldn't help but notice how happy she looked, and I knew I had done something right.

"Mama, I'm so full, but this was so yummy. Thank you," Eva said, her eyes sparkling.

"You're welcome, sweetie. Anything for my birthday girl," I said, ruffling her hair.

As we walked towards home, I could tell Eva was tired but happy. "Mama, today was really fun. Even though daddy isn't here, I still had a good birthday."

"I'm so glad, Eva. I love you so much, and I just want you to be happy," I said, giving her a tight hug.

"I love you too, Mama," Eva said, smiling up at me.

I knew that even though Thomas wasn't here, we were still a family, and we would always find a way to make each other

As we walked into the house, I couldn't believe my eyes. Thomas was there, with balloons, gifts, flowers, and a cake!

"Daddy! You're here!" Eva exclaimed, running towards him.

"Happy birthday, my little princess!" Thomas said, scooping her up into a big bear hug.

I stood back, watching the joy on Eva's face as Thomas showered her with gifts and affection. But as he caught my eye, he smiled and handed me one of the bouquets of flowers.

"These are for you, my love. I missed you so much," Thomas said, pressing a kiss to my cheek.

I blushed, feeling a warmth spread through me. "Thank you, Thomas. I missed you too."

As we all sat down to eat the chocolate cake, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this moment. Our little family was reunited, and even though it was a simple celebration, it was perfect.

"Thank you, Thomas, for coming home for Eva's birthday," I said, smiling at him.

"Anything for my girls," he said, reaching over to hold my hand.

Eva looked up at us, her eyes filled with love. "I'm so happy we're all together again."

And as we ate our cake, I knew that this was just the beginning of many more happy memories to come.
