~ Damon ~

After spending all night trying to track down Mikael—the Originals' father—with Katherine, Damon finally checked his phone to find out Klaus was attacking the school. The school Mallorie was at. If Klaus hadn't already killed her, it would be a miracle.

On his way back to Mystic Falls, Damon called Bonnie.

"Is she alright?" Damon asked.

"She's in the hospital," Bonnie's voice trembled. "Matt says she's doing okay. Pretty out of it."

"What the hell happened?" Damon asked.

There was some talking in the background. "We'll explain when you get here."

"Thanks for the help." Damon hung up and ran as fast as he could toward Mystic Falls.

It seemed like numerous hours ticked away, but the sun hadn't even started to rise by the time Damon made it to the hospital. He sighed as he stepped into the parking lot. He was here now. He could keep her safe. Then the rage came back when he spotted public enemy number one in the parking lot.

"Well, look who finally decided to show up to the party." Klaus smiled.

"Where is she?" Damon continued walking. He'd walk right through this scum bag if that's what it took to get to Mallorie.

"Mallorie?" Klaus asked. "Ah, she's making a donation to a greater cause." Damon tried to walk past him, but Klaus stopped him by putting a hand on his chest. "I'm afraid I can't let you interfere, mate."

Damon felt his nostrils flare. "Then you'll have to kill me."

Klaus pushed him back again. "Oh, I would love to kill you, but I made a pledge to your brother, and unlike him, I keep my word. Although, you know what, thinking about it now, he probably doesn't care that much anymore."

Without another word, Klaus pushed Damon against the hood of one of the cars in the parking lot. One hand around his throat, Klaus was looking for the kill. Damon caught Klaus's hand just before it plunged into his chest to rip out his heart.

"Don't you want to know about your friend Mikael?" Damon groaned.

Klaus froze in place. "What do you know about Mikael?"

"Just that he knows you're here." Damon taunted.

Klaus gave him a hard look as if he was trying to read Damon's mind. "You're bluffing."

"Katherine and I found him." Damon raised his brows. "Consider it our leverage."

With a snarl, Klaus threw Damon against another car. He groaned in pain as he fell to the ground but quickly recovered. By the time he looked up, Klaus was gone. Praying he hadn't gone for Mallorie, Damon stood up and rushed into the hospital.

As he marched through the halls, he looked in every room desperately searching for the girl he loved. Relief washed over him when he finally saw her sweet, familiar face. She looked so at peace while she slept. The only thing Damon wanted to do was pick her up from this bed, carry her away, and never look back. But, Damon knew that plan would never work. Mallorie wouldn't be happy leaving her friends behind, and Klaus would keep hunting her just like he had Katherine. The Salvatore house was the only place she was safe for now.

Damon started unplugging all the cords hooked into her. He noticed a bloody tube was one of them. Klaus was taking her blood no doubt. That's what he didn't want Damon interfering with.

"Damon?" Mallorie asked feebly.

He dropped the tube. "Hey." Damon pulled the blankets back so he could pick her up and carry her out.
