After Elena left with Jeremy, Stefan approached Mallorie.
"I know you're working with Damon to bring down Isobel." Before Mallorie could reply, Stefan continued. "While I don't condone not telling Elena, I will let it slide if you can handle this."
"I'm trying." Mallorie wiped away some tears.
"What's going on?" Stefan crossed his arms.
"Isobel took Matt. If I can't get the device from Damon, she's going to hurt him or kill him or something horrible." Mallorie felt more tears splash onto her cheeks.
"Damon's not going to hand it over, especially if it's harmful to vampires." Stefan looked into the distance.
"I know." Mallorie nodded. "But what if wasn't."
"What are you thinking?" Stefan asked.
"I have to talk to Bonnie." Mallorie searched the crowd for her face.
As she walked toward Bonnie, a dark figure stepped in front of her. Hands grasped her face. She was forced to look up at Damon. His eyes searched hers.
"Are you okay?" Damon asked.
Mallorie peered over his shoulder. "Yes. Right now I need to talk to Bonnie."
As Mallorie moved away, Damon grabbed her arm. "Hang on."
"No, Damon. I need to get Matt back." Mallorie shook him off and continued toward Bonnie.
"Bonnie!" Mallorie shouted. "Can I borrow you for a second?"
"Sure." Bonnie handed the tinsel she was applying to a girl next to her.
Damon and Stefan followed them into the school. Mallorie opened the door to Alaric's classroom. They filed in one-by-one. Everyone took a seat, except Mallorie.
"As most of us are aware, the Gilbert device is a weapon to be used against vampires. Emily's book doesn't say explicitly what it does." Mallorie paced up by the board. "Isobel wants it. And I think we should give it to her."
Damon shot out of his seat. "Absolutely not!"
"Just hear me out." Mallorie moved toward him.
"I'm not gonna give the device to Isobel so she could give it to John who is going to turn it to kill me. I like being a living dead person." Damon yelled.
Mallorie stopped right in front of him. "What if it didn't work anymore?"
Damon cocked his head and crossed his arms. "What do you mean?"
"We found out that Emily enchanted all of Johnathan's devices. They don't work without magic. If Bonnie could remove the spell, we could deactivate the device." Mallorie looked at Bonnie.
"I'll be right back." Bonnie got up and left the room.
"I'm not sure about this." Damon frowned.
"I have faith in Bonnie. She's gotten stronger since she first gained her powers," Mallorie said.
"I don't trust her." Damon turned his back.
Bonnie appeared in the doorway with the Bennett spellbook. "I can reverse the original spell."
"No, I'll go get Donovan myself." Damon marched to the door.
Stefan used his vamp speed to block Damon's path. "How are you going to do that? Isobel is a vampire, which means Matt could be dead the second you walk in the door."
"Are you even up for this?" Damon looked at Bonnie. "I mean no offense, you're no Emily Bennett. She knew what she was doing."
Bonnie narrowed her eyes. "I've been practicing."
