~ Mallorie ~

"Wow, Mallorie," Vicki said as she looked at herself in the mirror. "Where do you get these dresses?"

"My parents were good friends with some tailors. They own a formal shop downtown." Mallorie curled her normally straight dark hair.

"You should curl your hair more often." Vicki ran a flat iron through hers. "I like it with a little bit of wave."

"Yeah? You don't think it's too big?" Mallorie asked.

"No. The boys better watch out. You'll turn heads so quick they'll get whiplash." Vicki laughed.

Mallorie slipped into her ivory, off-the-shoulder dress. She grabbed a silver handbag before sliding on some silver, strappy heels.

"Here." Vicki slipped a silver, floral headband onto her head. "Now you look like a princess."

"Thanks, Vick." Mallorie smiled.

A horn honked outside. Mallorie pranced over to the window. Matt's truck sat in the driveway. He waved up at Mallorie.

"Time to head out. You ready?" Mallorie asked.

"As I'll ever be." Vicki grabbed her bag and followed Mallorie downstairs.

They hopped in the truck, and Matt drove to the Lockwood residence. The three teens talked all the way there about who they expected to see and the possible drama that may happen.

When Matt put the truck in park, Vicki sighed.

"Do you want us to walk with you?" Mallorie asked.

"No, I'll be fine. I have to face this at some point, right?" Vicki asked.

"Okay, but if you need me, don't be afraid to come steal me away." Mallorie grinned.

"I'm glad I have you." Vicki climbed out of the truck and marched toward the building.

"I appreciate all you do for her," Matt said.

Mallorie gave him a small smile. "We're family. We have to have each other's backs."

Matt took a deep breath. "Ready for this chaos?"

"Always." Mallorie giggled.

Matt got out of the truck and came to Mallorie's side. He offered his arm to her, and she rolled her eyes but took it. They walked up to the mansion together laughing and mocking some of the snootier folks there.

Almost everyone from school was there. As they made their way toward the entrance, Mallorie noticed Tyler leading Vicki around the back. She furrowed her brows but continued scanning the crowd. When she spotted Stefan and Elena entering the house, she prayed Matt didn't see them.

"How much do you think the Lockwoods spend on this a year?" Matt asked.

"Oh, at least a couple thousand between the decorations and the catering," Mallorie said.

"How nice would it be to have that kind of money?" Matt asked.

"I'd emancipate myself and buy my own house." Mallorie sighed. "I've been on my own anyway."

"No, you've got Vick and me." Matt smiled.

As they got into the house, Mallorie watched Caroline talk to her mother. Though no one was shouting, it seemed tense. Caroline stalked off.

"I wonder who she came with." Mallorie nodded to Caroline. "I can't believe Liz would approve of her mystery man. Caroline said he was older."

"Why is she wearing those scarves all of the sudden?" Matt asked. "I haven't seen her without one since that day she missed school last week."
